The Salt Room

Since February 2015, The Salt Room, Brighton has been delighting diners by celebrating the fruits of the sea and delivering the finest seafood and grilled meat cooked over charcoal, straight to your table. The restaurant is headed by the team behind Brighton’s award-winning The Coal Shed Restaurant, serving high quality dishes that do not disappoint.

Located right on the seafront close to the West Pier, you couldn’t wish for a better restaurant location. The Salt Room offers al fresco dining on their beautiful heated terrace, where you can enjoy uninterrupted sea views.

If you get a bit chilly, you can enjoy the view from inside through their huge, glass fronted windows. The large, open, airy interior of this seafront paradise combines elegance and class with dark woods, exposed brickwork and modern industrial style furniture.

The Salt Room offers delicious dishes with only the finest ingredients from local producers in Sussex. If you’re looking to enjoy fresh seafood meals while maintaining affordability, then try out The Salt Room’s set lunch menu, starting at just £25 per person. Offering fish soup starters, mussels, classic fish and chips or a vegetarian farm squash curry for your main and an iconic lemon cheesecake dessert, their set menu is available Monday to Friday, from 12pm to 6pm.

The Salt Room caters to everyone, offering a children’s menu for a family friendly evening and a group and events menu. Please note that pre-orders are required for groups of 14 and above. The Salt Room offers an extensive wine list, creating the perfect end to your evening dinner. The Salt Room’s signature cocktails are unmatched, with refreshing non-alcoholic options available as well.

The Blue Man

The Blue Man is an independently run hidden gem in the city centre offering a great range of North African flavours, tapas, teas, coffees, wines, beers and spirits.

Just 2 minutes from Brighton station and a short walk from the beach, The Blue Man is ideally located however can be easily missed if you are not paying attention!

Decorated in a quirky and eclectic way, the atmosphere is inviting and intriguing. The Blue Man is beautifully designed with an ambiance that is both cosy and magical. This stunning venue is also available to hire for all sorts of parties or events. The evenings are complemented by live events, acoustic nights, comedy, spoken word, dancing, DJs and parties.

If you’re hungry, a lovely selection of homemade food is available all day in North African flavours, ranging from Algeria to Moroccan. Whether you’re craving a light snack, a full meal or just a tea or coffee, this little Africa in Brighton offers a great selection at reasonable prices with friendly and helpful service.

The Blue Man specialises in Algerian Kemias, with a perfectly crafted wine list, cocktails and weekly specials. Their menu features authentic small plates, as well as Tagines and nibbles, with gluten free alternatives and vegan options.

Opening in 1997, The Blue Man honours nomadic tradition. This is their 5th venue, in the heart of Brighton down Gloucester Road. The Blue Man is opened Monday to Friday, from 12pm to 10pm; Saturday, from 10am to 10pm and Sunday, from 11am to 10pm.

The Old Market

With a consistently excellent programme of live music, theatre, comedy and more, The Old Market (or TOM as it’s known) really is the go to venue if your looking for culture in Brighton. The venue is owned and managed by those behind the global hit show STOMP, who are Brighton residents themselves!

As an independent theatre, TOM has the freedom to be adventurous with their theatre programme and the selection really is second to none. Expect to see a huge range of high quality work across multiple disciplines which will appeal to all ages and cultures, with innovative storytelling using interesting techniques and new technologies.

TOM is also one of the best destinations for comedy in Brighton with big name comedians in the past including Michael McIntyre, Paul Merton, Miranda and Julian Clary to name but a few. TOM also nurtures new talent and is one of the best places to see upcoming comedians so you can get in there before they hit the big time!

The live music programme at TOM is full of both emerging bands and old favourites. Previous acts have included Django Django,White Mink: Electro Swing Speakeasy, Ginger Baker, Alice Russell, Villagers, British Sea Power, Cerys Matthews and many more.

The bar at TOM is a modern yet cosy area to enjoy a pre-show tipple with reasonable prices and a good selections of beers, wines and spirits plus snacks. The space can be used as a venue itself for small events such as exclusive show previews and scratch nights. Just off of the bar you’ll also find an exhibition space which regularly hosts work from a variety of local and international artists.

TOM is included yearly in a variety of festivals such as Brighton Fringe (May), Brighton Digital Festival (September) and Brighton Comedy Festival (October) so expect to see lots of interesting shows during these times. Also be sure to check out their programme around Halloween and Christmas for some exciting events such as immersive club nights and cabaret extravaganzas!
