If you love music and poetry, this one’s for you! Basics Volume 3 is bringing an evening of stripped-back soul music and amazing spoken word. This will be the final show of the year and will take place on Thursday, the 28th of November, at the Folklore Rooms. Doors open at 7:30 pm, music starts at 8 pm, and the night wraps up at 10:30 pm.

‘Basics | Volume 3’ Brings Soulful Music and Award-Winning Poetry to Brighton

Headlining the show will be the Stone Jets. This band, hailing from South Africa and France, will bring a blend of bluesy riffs, soulful vocals, and expressive storytelling. Stone Jets have performed on stages all over the world, including Glastonbury, Underneath the Stars, and Wilderness festivals. They’ve also shared the stage with artists like James Morrison, Sugababes, and Hugh Masekela.

Brighton’s very own Young People’s Laureate of 2021, Cecilia Knapp, will be coming to the stage to perform her unique spoken word poetry. A recipient of prestigious national poetry accolades like the Ruth Rendell Award and shortlisted for the Forward Prize, Rebecca Swift Women’s Prize, and Outspoken Poetry Prize, Cecilia’s work is sure to leave a lasting impression. Her debut collection, “Peach Pig,” even earned the title of Observer’s Poetry Book of the Month.

But that’s not it for the lineup! Tagore Chayne, a Folk / Americana musician who’s an absorbing storyteller, falsetto singer, and captivating performer, will also be performing some poetry alongside a selection of songs.
