3 lesser-known activities to liven up a weekend trip to Brighton

Do you think you’ve tried out every fun activity Brighton has by now? Struggling to find anything more to do or just unsure of whatever else is on offer? Don’t worry, we’re bringing you all the things to do in Brighton and the surrounding area that you don’t even know you want to do yet.

Bingo Loco

Bingo is often thought of as a pastime of the elderly, but there is a growing trend in Britain of reviving more traditional entertainment, with old-fashioned and beloved games like Bingo being pulled forward into the 21st century thanks to the Internet and digital media. Modern British casinos such as MrQ have renovated a classic game with various forms of online bingo to meet a range of players’ needs. Similarly, the great British bingo hall has gotten a few upgrades too, modernising the game for current players of old and young.

Bingo Loco is probably the biggest departure from the classic formula, featuring full-on dance parties, the 80s and 90s-themed nights and huge international holiday prizes available for the bingo itself, which features high-energy live hosts presenting everything!

Footgolf

If you’ve never heard of footgolf before, two things: one, you’re not alone, and two, it’s pretty much exactly what you think it is. Footgolf is played on a specially converted version of a golf course, with giant-sized holes to aim for and not a single golf club in site Also, as it happens, there’s a footgolf course right here in Brighton, or at least more on the Hove side of the region.

This is best enjoyed as a group event, and while it’s suitable for pretty much anyone to enjoy, in our experience it really works best as an alternative to something like paintball if your group is not the most athletic, or even go-karts for those friends who shouldn’t be allowed behind the wheel. If you start feeling confident in it, Brighton Footgolf even runs tournaments with cash prizes, and they also have a great bar on site to cater for a stag or hen do.

Beachside Spa

This is a one-of-a-kind unique attraction within Brighton and if you’re living in the area there’s absolutely no excuse to not give it a go. Beach Box Spa is a wood-fired sauna spa based right on Brighton Beach, and unlike the beach itself, it’s a year-round attraction.

Aside from three traditional Finnish-style spa buildings that can be booked individually or in groups, the spa also runs special community events like moon parties, and even offers a unique Christmas party package right through to the end of January. As a bonus, they donate a portion of that last package to a local hospital charity, so you get to feel warm both inside and outside at the same time.

So, there are three more items to add to your list if you’re living in or even just visiting the area, and each one comes very highly recommended, so give them a go!

Andy Macpherson

Andy Macpherson is a Brighton-based blogger, amateur golfer and photographer with a passion for capturing the essence of his surroundings. Born and raised in Hove, he has spent almost his entire life exploring the streets and beaches of Brighton, always with a DLSR in hand. When he's not out taking photos or hacking his way around the golf course, Andy can often be found gorging on Pad Thai. As a self-proclaimed foodie, Andy is always on the lookout for new restaurants and dishes to try, which is the main reason behind why he loves reviewing food places for the site.
