The thing I loved most about watching Acaprov for the first time was how much the eight-strong ensemble clearly loved what they were doing. The joy was palpable. Acaprov: The Improvised A Cappella Musical does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s an improvised musical and it’s a cappella.
Brighton Fringe Festival: The Ultimate Guide
Acaprov brings together an exceedingly talented bunch of singers, beatboxers and rappers to improvise a piece of musical theatre, without backing music. Well backing and beats are provided by the ensemble… just incredible. The audience chooses a location and a name and we go from there. This means every performance is completely unique. It was so fun to be a part of.

The crowdsourced location: B & Q (in Greece). The title of the musical: Do it yourself (Queuing at B&Q didn’t quite make the cut). The talent of this happy bunch is astounding. To create a musical and narrative off the cuff and make it flow is wizardry. To be honest, I loved the bits most where things could almost go wrong.
Highlights included bird watching and improvised bird names and a song about the thrill of being a drill. I already want to go back for the next performance to see what unique creation unfolds next time. Make sure you go and catch Acaprov’s final two Fringe shows if you can!
Acaprov have two more Brighton Fringe shows at The Walrus: a kids show at 4pm on Monday, May 5, and another improvised musical at 6.30pm.
