Best things to do in Brighton this winter: part two!

Brighton is an exciting city that has a lot going on at all times. Winter is no exception to this. There are plenty of different things to do in and around the city. We have put together a guide that covers six different things you can do in the city.

Enjoy A Brisk Sea Walk

Let’s start with something that you may not have expected. While you probably mostly associate the beach and sea with the summer, it can actually be quite enjoyable to enjoy during the winter. Grab some friends and go and enjoy a brisk sea walk.

The sea won’t be quite frozen other, but it will be enjoyable to observe. If you don’t fancy going down onto the beach, then you can enjoy it from the comfort of the pier, if you prefer. It’s certainly worth looking at, at the very least.

Watch Brighton & Hove Albion At Night

While football is often seen as a sport enjoyed under the sun, you may be surprised to hear that most football takes place during the winter. If you’re not a football fan, then you should absolutely consider going down to the Amex Stadium to watch the seagulls under the lights. Nothing quite hits the same as a night game under the lights at a proper football ground.

The Amex Stadium isn’t around the centre of Brighton. In fact, it is around the outskirts of the city. This means you will have to find your way over there. You can take a taxi, grab a bus, or even take a train from the city centre. Either way, you will have some time to kill while you head there. Consider downloading some games to get you in the mood and keep your mind busy. You can play slots at online casinos via your phone. Sites such as Online Casino Review can help you find the best online slots to suit your needs. Soon, you will be at the Amex, enjoying Brighton during the peak of winter.

Visit One Of The Oldest Aquariums In The World

Many people don’t know, even the locals, that Brighton is home to one of the oldest aquariums in the world. The same architect who designed the West Pier, Eugenius Birch, helped conceive Brighton Aquarium in the nineteenth century. Work began in 1869, and it opened in 1872. While there can be no doubt about this aquarium being the oldest in Britain, there is a dispute that a French aquarium beat Brighton by a few years.

Either way, the history of this site is something that needs to be seen. While it is now owned by SEA LIFE, it is still worth seeing. Not to mention, it will be quite warm inside the aquarium, so if you’re struggling with the winter cold, then it could be a perfect time to get inside and enjoy something different. Not to mention, you will be able to see winter animals such as penguins, which can be quite enjoyable during winter.

Attend One Of The Oldest Cinemas In England

On the topic of history, it’s good to know that Brighton also has one of the oldest cinemas in the country, through the Duke of York’s Picturehouse. This cinema lays claim to being the oldest cinema in continuous use in Britain, after opening back in 1910. Recently, the cinema celebrated its 112th birthday with a 11-hour movie marathon. This unique cinema is a must-see if you’re travelling to Brighton.

Even though the cinema was purchased by Cineworld in 2012, it still kept the art house vibe. Not only will you be able to enjoy unique films, but you will also be able to get out of the cold here, and enjoy a nice sit down this winter.

Enjoy The South Downs

Just outside of Brighton is an area known as the South Downs. This area is a range of chalk hills that covers approximately 260 square miles along the south coast. This beautiful area can be enjoyed during any season, but a winter walk, especially during snowfall, will be a must-see.

The South Downs National Park has stunning views and plenty of opportunities for various outdoor activities. There are hotels in this area, so you could look to stay right in the action and enjoy it all. It’s worth looking ahead of time to see what events are on, so that you can get your tickets early, if there is anything.

Visit The Christmas Market

What winter would be complete without attending a Christmas market? Fortunately, one of the best Christmas markets in the UK can be found in Brighton. The Brighton Christmas Festival usually starts around the end of November, and will last right up until Christmas eve.

You will be able to find a range of independent retail stores selling their Christmas goods, as well as numerous food and bars to help get you in the Christmas spirit. You can warm yourself up while getting in the Christmas spirit by enjoying a mulled wine, for example. This will be a great way to finish your winter adventure in the city, assuming the market is still running. If you’re attending Brighton in January time, then you can still attend a market, just not a Christmas one.
