Brighton Festival 2025 is set to deliver a bold and diverse contemporary music programme under the artistic direction of Anoushka Shankar. The Grammy-nominated sitar virtuoso has curated an eclectic line-up celebrating female talent, global artistry, and genre-defying performances.
Shankar will debut her latest album, Chapter III: We Return to Light, at Brighton Dome Concert Hall. The performance marks the culmination of her album trilogy, symbolizing resilience and renewal. Supported by the Bagri Foundation, it promises to be a transformative experience.
Joining the festival is Grammy-winner Arooj Aftab, whose album Night Reign received critical acclaim. Known for her evocative blend of jazz, classical, and global music, Aftab’s mesmerizing presence will captivate audiences. Similarly, Mercury Prize-nominated singer-songwriter Nadine Shah will bring her signature raw energy and thought-provoking lyrics, following the success of her fifth album Filthy Underneath.

Electronic music enthusiasts can look forward to a groundbreaking show from Max Cooper. His immersive experience, featuring light projections and luminous sculptures, complements his latest album On Being, which delves into the human experience.
Global sounds will also echo through the festival with Malian music duo Amadou & Mariam, known for their joyous blend of Afrobeat and pop. Additionally, legendary Indian classical singer Aruna Sairam will perform alongside genre-bending artist Ganavya in a cross-cultural celebration. Senegalese kora master Seckou Keita will present Homeland: Chapter 1, exploring themes of migration and belonging.

The festival will spotlight female talent at MOVES Festival, a day-long celebration at The Old Market featuring rising stars like Harleighblu and Brighton’s own Kymara. Meanwhile, The Rose Hill will host intimate ‘Mehfils,’ traditional South Asian music gatherings showcasing over 20 artists.
Dance enthusiasts can revel in late-night parties, including a high-energy opening night set from Ahadadream, known for his percussive club beats. The festival will conclude with a closing party hosted by Nerm of Shiva Soundsystem, promising surprise star guests.
