Welcome to Brighton People, a We Love Brighton series celebrating the brilliant individuals, organisations, and businesses that make our city shine. Meet Ayten, the designer and maker behind the luxury ethical lingerie label Ayten Gasson.

What is Ayten Gasson for anyone who doesn’t know?
Ayten Gasson is a luxury ethical lingerie label I founded in 2005 after graduating from Central Saint Martins. Every piece is handmade in my Brighton studio, using beautiful, sustainable fabrics such as silk, organic bamboo silk, and Oeko-tex and locally made laces. The brand is about combining traditional sewing skills with a modern approach to transparency and sustainability.
Who are you and what is your connection to Brighton?
I’m Ayten, the designer and maker behind the label. I’ve lived and worked in Brighton for many years, and it’s where I’ve been able to grow my business within a supportive, creative community. Our new studio at Old Steine puts us right in the centre of the city, which feels like the perfect next step.

What is the story of Ayten Gasson?
The label was inspired by my mum, who worked in garment factories producing fast-fashion clothing for very little pay. Seeing her skills and hard work undervalued made me determined to build a business rooted in fairness and craftsmanship. I launched the label 20 years ago to celebrate high-quality fabrics, traditional sewing techniques, and a slower, more thoughtful approach to fashion.
What have you been up to and what’s coming up for Ayten Gasson?
We’ve just moved into our new studio at Pier Werks, 21-22 Old Steine BN1 1EL, which doubles as a working space and a place where people can explore the collections in person. We’ve also launched our new collection, which is now available to view at the studio. Later this year, I’ll be showing at the Brighton Fashion Collective’s opening event at The Helm Gallery in September
What do you love about Brighton?
Brighton has an amazing creative energy and a real appreciation for independent businesses. People here value sustainability and are excited to support designers who make things locally. Being part of a city with such a strong artistic community is incredibly inspiring.
Anything else you want to share?
Our new studio is open every Thursday and Friday from 11am to 5pm, and private appointments can be booked via our website if those times don’t suit. It’s more than just a workspace; it’s a place where you can meet the maker, discover the collection, and see how each piece is crafted.
