Welcome to Brighton People, a new series from We Love Brighton celebrating the brilliant individuals, organisations, and businesses that make our city shine. Tandi Cann moved to Brighton from Bermuda in 2022. She runs Salvaged In Bermuda, a Brighton-based scent business.

Please tell me about Salvaged in Bermuda – how it started and what your aim is.
Having spent almost 20 years in Bermuda, and originally raised in Southern Africa by traditional herbalists, I’ve always had a strong connection to nature’s healing power and have appreciated aromatherapy for many years. After battling anxiety and stress, I eventually reached burnout and decided to reclaim my well-being. This led to the birth of Salvaged in Bermuda in 2018 as a passion project.
Salvaged is rooted in intentional living, reducing toxins in the products we use, natural self-care, and the healing power of scent. I craft bespoke, multi-purpose aromatherapy-inspired products using natural ingredients and pure essential oils, ranging from personal fragrances and meditation blends to household scents and remedies to support restful sleep, ease anxiety, and manage stress.
Why do you love Brighton?
Since arriving, I’ve felt truly embraced by Brighton’s vibrant, supportive, and inclusive community. The local business scene is incredibly welcoming, with fantastic resources available to small businesses and start-ups. I highly recommend the BIPC at Jubilee Library and Support Local, both of which have played a fundamental role in my journey.
I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with local makers, artists, creatives, and businesses, including About Balance, and have traded at a variety of events such as The Yoga Festival, Holistic Fairs, Sustainable Fashion Week/Brighton Fashion Collective, Black Brighton Market, and Brighton Open Market, to name a few.
How is Salvaged in Bermuda evolving, and what are your future dreams?
This journey is also about building a legacy. My young daughter is very much a part of it, her
presence and curiosity inspired a new children’s line: gentle blends for little humans, created
with care for little ones. Looking ahead, I hope to find a small studio space or collaborate with local independent shops to stock my range more widely. We’re also in the process of designing family-friendly workshops that promote self-care, explore the power of scent (olfaction), and help develop sustainable habits for managing daily stresses and emotions. Please keep an eye on our socials for updates.
We offer Create Your Own Bespoke Ambiance – I love using scent to set the mood in my home, my living room, for example, smells like a forest with calming woody notes that help soothe my nervous system. It’s magical how our bodies respond to scent. I now invite you to create your own personal ambiance with me.
