Welcome to Brighton People, a new series from We Love Brighton celebrating the brilliant individuals, organisations, and businesses that make our city shine. Meet the founders of Wombshine: Adele Meyer, Mark Claydon and Ellie Hale.
Wombshine makes delicious plant-based chocolate truffles packed with more than a dozen vitamins and nutrients your body needs during your menstrual cycle.

What is Wombshine for anyone who doesn’t know?
Wombshine believes wombs are over-utilised and under-cared for. Month after month, we witness ourselves and our loved ones push through pain, fatigue, and discomfort, ignoring our bodies’ natural cycles. That’s why we partner with artisan chocolatiers to make delicious, plant-based chocolate truffles infused with supplements aimed at relieving period pains and fatigue. We sell our womb-nourishing chocolates at local markets. We sell our period care packages individually and by subscription.
They include six truffles – one for each day of your period – with cyclical custom art (we’re currently partnering with local artist Nikki Strange @nikkistrangedesign), tea, and a nervous system-calming playlist to vibe to.
The idea here is to send a little love and nurturance back towards people with wombs, rather than dismiss our pain and discomfort as normal. Anyone who is suffering deserves treatment and care, and for way too long womb health has been dismissed as simply too mysterious or recurrent to bother sorting out. People with periods, if they’re lucky, could have as many as 450 menstrual cycles in a lifetime. How many of us have been through hundreds of cycles without ever supporting our bodies through them? Of course, it’s not possible to cancel all of our plans and rest every time we have a menstrual cycle in today’s busy world. But at Wombshine, we say power up; don’t just power through.

What Is Your connection to Brighton?
Wombshine has three founders. We all live in Brighton. Adele just moved here last year, as it’s her favourite place in the UK, she used to live in San Francisco and they’re very much sister cities. Ellie and Mark have lived in Kemptown for five years now. We started Wombshine in Brighton because it’s full of kindred spirits who want to make the world a sweeter, more caring place.
What has Wombshine been up to and what’s coming up this Summer and beyond?
We have learned the hard way that ecommerce in the chocolate industry can be a bit dicey in hotter months, when chocolate, despite our best efforts as a small business, is prone to melting en route. So, we make sure to have a consistent presence around Brighton in the summer months, so our customers have a way to reach us in case a heat wave does freeze shipping! We are regulars at the Brighton Open Market, Kemptown Market, Seaside Siblinghood Fairs, and all kinds of special events throughout the year. We are also brewing a special event called Cycle Sundays for people to come and enjoy embodied movement, great music and community vibes on Sunday afternoons, so look out for promo on our Instagram!
what do you love about Brighton?
The sea, the music, the food, the style, the colourful people. It makes people happy just to be here. Brighton is also full of really incredible small businesses, people who really care about what they have to offer and make interesting, unique things, places, and experiences. It’s accessible and inclusive. We love to be a part of the small business community here. We have been building relationships with local legends, for example you can purchase the Brighton-based Aghh! Zine about blood at our market stall.
