Brighton Sofar Sounds: 14th March 2025 Review

On Friday, I had the privilege of being part of a musical experience at St. Luke’s Church, thanks to the magic of Sofar Sounds. The show, a sonic journey through three talented artists, REA, William Jack and Josephine Illingworth, who can all be found on social media, Spotify, and the web.

The night kicked off with the sweet calm of REA and her band, who, with passion and authenticity, invited the audience on an introspective journey. Their music, like a gentle prelude, subtly prepared us for the rest of the evening.

William Jack, with his innovative and organic way of playing the cello, transported us to experimental and bold territory. Exploring unexpected sounds and textures, his performance was a whirlwind of creativity – quite something, really!

Finally, Josephine Illingworth wrapped us up with the rawness and beauty of her songs. Her powerful and moving voice, accompanied by a guitar, challenged us with stories of life and deep reflections. It was a perfect end to a night full of contrasts and emotions.

The Sofar Sounds show at St. Luke’s was much more than just a gig; it was an intimate and friendly journey, a sensory experience that allowed us to connect with the music and ourselves in a special way. The warm and welcoming atmosphere of the event, combined with the artists’ closeness, created a magical and memorable vibe.

The chance to take breaks, have a chat with other attendees, and enjoy a drink between performances added a touch of relaxation and camaraderie to the evening. It was like sharing a journey with mates, discovering new soundscapes and shared emotions.

However, it’s worth mentioning that St. Luke’s Church can be a bit nippy, so I’d recommend bringing a coat to fully enjoy the show without any distractions if you go to any events here. Despite this small detail, the human warmth and the quality of the music made this night an absolute cracker. In short, it was one of those journeys where you experience a bit of everything and return home wanting to embark on another.
