Brighton’s Best Barbers

Hair has a vital role in our self esteem. It’s so often key to how we present our personality, and in many ways reflects our state of mind. I’m sure many of us have been going through a rough time and neglected to get a haircut, resulting in an untamed mess only further affecting your self esteem.

Or, perhaps you got a cheaper haircut, opting to save money and ended up  stuck with an embarrassing trim for the next month or two.

It’s a real confidence killer having a haircut that doesn’t make you happy, and it’s even worse when you do something about it and it turns out worse than before. For some (myself included) it can be a real cause of anxiety to just visit a Barber, with the possibility of a poor haircut affecting you for a long period of time should it go wrong.

When you don’t have that trusted Barber, that anxiety can put you off getting a haircut entirely. If only you had a way to find some Barbers that you can trust in a concise article. Then, maybe you wouldn’t have to live in fear of dodgy haircuts…

Peter Joannou Male Grooming

A longstanding paragon of style, with 35 years in the business Peter Joannou is your best bet for excellence. With a range of services, standard cuts start at £24 with James, and £27 with the man himself Peter.

It’s a high price, but this is designer and stylist quality. They also offer a discount price for just the back and sides, which will make a big difference for many. Other services include, face care, head and shoulder massages, Beard sculpting and even the revolutionary hair loss treatment, Tricopigmentation; with Peter a leading expert in the field.

If somehow you need more, between 6-7pm on the last Saturday of every month, Peter sings songs “from The Great American Songbook from his window on The Lanes”. With ditties from Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Tony Bennett, Perry Como, Elvis Presley & many more. All proceeds go to charity and whether you get a cut or not, it’s a delight to watch.

Have a special occasion? He has a V.I.P Groom club specifically for the biggest days in your life, where you want to look your best, and be pampered simultaneously.

There’s even more to check out on their site, the list of services and extras they can provide seem to go on endlessly. If you can afford paying a little more, it’s absolutely worth it, and you’ll be wishing every haircut was this relaxing. They’ll even give you a complimentary drink of your choosing.

Master Wheelers

My go to Barber. Always a great quality haircut when I visit, despite myself being utterly terrible at describing what I want my hair to look like when they are done.

I’m usually not one to talk much when getting my haircut, but the barbers are very relaxed and easy to talk to. It’s about £16.00 for a standard men’s cut, and compared to how much barbers can charge that’s a steal. The ability and quality here is truly a cut above.

Walk Ins are possible but sometimes they will be booked up, so safe to book, I never have to book more than a day or two in advance. As a more typical Barber and less of a Male grooming experience like the Peter Joannou’s, it’s hard to find better in my opinion.

I’ll admit I’m a little biased, as it’s my usual, but I’ve never been disappointed in the years I’ve been. It may not quite be as glamourous as some others on this list, but not everyone can afford places with so much gravitas.

For many when they are looking for a Barber, this is the establishment they have in mind. Consistent and amicable, a place I and many others rely upon. A nice un-intimidating atmosphere, with friendly Barbers and consistent satisfaction.

Zack’s Barber

The cheapest out of the four in this article, Zack’s provides quality hair cuts for just £13.00, with the bold promise of a speedy cut, with their site claiming a haircut in as short as 25 minutes. Their price and quality is unbeatable, and with extras for that little extra boost like a face mask from just £5.

You can get extra on top of the cut for cheaper than just a regular cut from most other Brighton based barbers. They also promise a full service for £32.00 which includes: Haircut, Beard Work, Face Mask, Waxing, Hot Towel & Massage, that’s basically a spa day for £32.00, that leaves you feeling refreshed in just an hour.

Having grown over the years, this is an establishment that has earned its reputation through the hard work of its team, pulling themselves up to be one of the best Barbers in Brighton, through perseverance and teamwork.

Teddy Edwards Cutting Rooms

Created by award winning Barber Alex Burt, Teddy’s aims to combine elements of  Barbers and  Hairdressers, whilst maintaining its Barbershop identity. With more awards being talked about, it’s no surprise Teddy’s has quickly become one of Brighton’s leading Barbershops.

Alex understands the Barber experience is reliant on outstanding customer service; an incredibly refreshing take in an industry often focussed on the name cutting the hair, rather than the person sitting in the chair. Having worked with Fendi, David Beckham’s label Kent and Curwen and behind the scenes at the London and Milan Fashion week separately, the owner knows his stuff.

With a team of 12 hand selected, passionate and talented Barbers, Teddy’s has a more than capable crew at its disposal. Haircuts are from £21.00 and take 45 minutes according to their own website.

With plenty more male grooming services available, there’s once again far more than just good haircuts here. If you can afford a little more, you can transform yourself and finally achieve that look you’ve always envisioned but never quite manifested.
