Everything You Need To Know About Sir Cliff Richard
Sir Cliff Richard is one of the most recognisable and best-loved figures in British music for six decades. With a career that spans rock ’n’ roll, pop, film, TV and an enduring presence in national culture, Cliff Richard is far more than a singer. His ability to evolve with the times, stay musically relevant and maintain deep emotional connections with fans has secured him a legacy few artists can match. He is a Christian and has proved resilient under the spotlight.
Sir Cliff’s net worth is believed to be £25 million.

Cliff Richard: Early Life
Cliff Richard was born in Lucknow, India in 1940 and his name then was actually Harry Rodger Webb. Harry Webb moved to the UK with his family when he was 8. His teenage years coincided with the explosion of American rock ’n’ roll and like many young people of the era, he was captivated by artists such as Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly. By the late 1950s, he had adopted the stage name Cliff Richard and formed the band The Drifters (later renamed The Shadows).
In 1958, Cliff released “Move It,” a track that many critics consider the first authentic British rock ’n’ roll song. It reached number two in the UK charts and sent a clear message: British pop music had found a new direction and a new star.
Early Career
Throughout the 1960s, Cliff Richard and The Shadows became one of the most successful partnerships in UK music history. With hits like “Living Doll,” “Travellin’ Light,” “The Young Ones,” and “Summer Holiday,” they dominated charts and helped shape the emerging British pop identity. Cliff also transitioned into acting, starring in several films.
During this period, his music evolved from rock ’n’ roll into a smoother, more melodic pop sound. His ability to adapt without losing his signature style would become a hallmark of his career.
The 1970s Onwards and Cliff Richard At Christmas
Cliff Richard managed to adapt to multiple musical eras. In the 1970s he moved toward soft rock and adult contemporary music. His hits include “We Don’t Talk Anymore,” “Miss You Nights,” and “Devil Woman.” These songs reached international audiences.
During the 1980s, Cliff enjoyed yet another renaissance with chart-topping singles like “Mistletoe and Wine,” “Living Doll” (re-recorded with The Young Ones), and “Saviour’s Day.” His Christmas releases have become part of British seasonal tradition, with millions associating his voice with festive celebrations.
Cliff Richard’s Christmas Number Ones
Cliff Richard has had three Christmas number ones, so no doubt audiences visiting him on this tour will be looking forward to hearing them. They are “I Love You” with The Shadows in 1960, “Mistletoe & Wine” in 1988 and “Saviour’s Day” in 1990.
The Singer’s Achievements
Cliff Richard has sold more than 250 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time. He is the only artist to achieve UK Top 10 hits in every decade from the 1950s to the 2020s.
He has received two Brit Awards, and a knighthood in 1995, making him the first rock star to be knighted.
What To Expect From The Show
Cliff and his team have been posting on social media during the Australia and New Zealand legs of his ‘Can’t Stop Me Now’ tour. In Auckland, he said: “Never enough time in each city to really get into sightseeing, but I’m certainly not complaining.” He consistently praises the big team touring with him: “Behind every production is a team of dedicated people.” Merchandise will be on sale on the tour, as Cliff shared that since 1986 by Chester Hopkins International Ltd providing the merchandise for his tours.
