Tucked under the railway arches of Beaconsfield Road is Luna Hut Sauna Café – the latest offering from Luna Hut and it’s a hidden gem you should definitely visit before everyone finds out about it (although I hope more people do soon as well because it deserves it!)

Luna Hut has a beachfront sauna by Sea Lanes in Brighton, with others in Worthing and Eastbourne. What makes this Viaduct-based one different is it is green, sheltered from the elements and has a sauna café with delicious drinks and cakes. This new offering has clearly been crafted with much thought and love.

I was greeted by welcoming and chatty staff when I visited the Sauna Café for the first time. On a Tuesday afternoon in early June, sunlight filtered onto the beautifully and thoughtfully designed courtyard, which houses two saunas, two very cold dips, outdoor showers and cosy, comfortable seating. A freelance life means I have the privilege of choosing quieter moments at saunas, but the area is spacious, with room for everyone.

The individual changing rooms are roomy and there are plenty of lockers. Everyone I encountered was super friendly. There was a really community-Brighton-feel to the place.
The large wood-fired sauna was super hot – just how I like it, with plenty of space and it felt really clean and well-maintained. There’s also a smaller electric sauna, which has more of a steam atmosphere.

What I loved about the Sauna Café was the peacefulness, the birdsong, the sunshine and the relaxing vibe. It really is an alternative oasis in the city.
My friend and I enjoyed tea, coffee, and I had a slice of cake afterwards. I could have sat there for hours and I can’t wait to return.

In Luna Hut’s own words: “A new kind of experience has arrived in Brighton. Ever dreamed of having a sauna in your garden? Or an Urban Oasis? A lush, green hideaway where you can hang out with friends, sunbathe, and totally switch off? Well so did we! And that’s what we’ve created for you… introducing our Sauna Café on Beaconsfield Road, Brighton. If you’ve wandered past and peered through the windows (we’ve seen you!) and wondered what’s beyond the back door… here’s your invitation. Step through the café, follow the signs, and you’ll discover our leafy little secret in the city. A tucked-away garden filled with tropical-style foliage, two steamy saunas, open-air showers, and chilled plunge pools. On a sunny day, it’s pure paradise – Brighton meets Bali. Come by have a look around and stay for a coffee, a cool drink or a tasty snack. The sun’s out, the leaves are lush, and the saunas are hot.”
