It’s raining men at Brighton’s Level, thanks to Magic Dyke Live: a sensationally steamy and unforgettable night of music and dance from some of the most stunning drag kings in town. For just two nights only, these fine fellas are blessing Brighton Fringe 2025, on May 22 and 23 at The Circus Yard, and trust me when I say that you will not want to miss it…
The Venue
Revel Puck Circus has arrived to Brighton Fringe 2025, based at The Level, until June 2. Open every day from 11am, the Circus Yard will be hosting an array of family-friendly circus and storytelling events, immersive theatre performances and stunningly sexy late-night cabaret. The Circus Yard is home to two impressive venues: Big Puck, a 500-capacity Big Top tent, with tiered audience seating, and Little Puck, a 200-capacity Big Top.
Outside, a food truck served up Mexican street food, offering nachos, tacos, quesadillas and burritos with toppings like chipotle-lemon chicken, tequila-bbq pork, refried beans and roasted squash, and bbq jackfruit, all served with salsa, cheese and sour cream. For something to sip alongside, the PucksBar offers outdoor covered seating, including vintage sofas, under a glitterball and fairy lights.
The Vibe
Little Puck was fully-packed with excitable audience members, ready to whoop, holler and cheer, and more than willing to buy the “Tipping Tokens” to throw at/tuck into the waistbands (if invited) of the performers.
The evening was hosted by Jamie Fuxx, and boy, does he! With stunning vocals, effortlessly sexy routines and fabulous crowd work, we were in his safe hands all night long (chance would be a fine thing!)
Shardeazy Aphrodisiac stunned in gender bending denim, with fierce dance moves, razor-sharp lipsynching, and seriously sexy routines. Sigi Moonlight dazzled as well, offering a hilarious and surprisingly steamy fisherman routine involving seagulls, mayonnaise, and a very saucy fishfinger. Guest drag king P.M.B.C had us poignantly moved to some dramatic Lady Gaga, before whipping out the sparkles (and a bit more!) in an athletic and steamy routine.
Consent and comfort were at the heart of the production, with clear guidance on how audience participation would work, including optional wristbands to signal willingness for audience interaction, and clear guidelines on how to communicate and withdraw willingness to participate. Those who did participate enjoyed personal dances, interaction with the drag kings and were even invited on stage!
The Verdict
Magic Dyke Live was a sexy and empowering night of gender-bending fun, proving that creativity, self-expression and sheer talent are unequivocally abundant in the drag king scene. These unforgettable acts, alongside some truly moving gratitude for the community from Jamie Fuxx, and his powerful comments about the importance of gender-affirming care, left us feeling equal parts entertained, delighted and inspired.
