Moshimo Brighton Review: New Yoshoku Burgers

Moshimo has added new burgers to its tasty menu. We Love Brighton’s Hannah Shafau And Her Friend Tried them

On a sunny Friday afternoon, Moshimo opened its doors to me and my friend. The scent of fresh sushi and fried katsu filled the air as we entered the restaurant, greeted by soft music and welcoming staff. Moshimo had introduced a new selection of Yoshoku burgers to their menu and we were eager to try them.

Moshimo is a well known Japanese restaurant in Brighton, serving sushi, bento and vegan dishes. Their selection of authentic flavourful meals attracts many through its doors and we were hoping to try their exclusive new burgers. As soon as we arrived, a friendly server greeted us and guided us through the restaurant, letting us choose any seat we liked. Moshimo has both indoor and outdoor seating, with bold red chairs and an array of green plants. We opted to sit inside (away from the scorching sun) and took a seat next to the rotating conveyor belt of sushi.

Once we received the menu, we looked through the wide variety of dishes Moshimo has to offer. Our waiter kindly offered us a glass of water while we scoured the menu for their new burgers. We started off the evening with some cocktails, ordering their new Matcha Mojito and classic Raspberry Sake Daiquiri.

We were in awe from the first sip, admiring the beautiful colours and perfect balance of sweetness with a subtle kick. The mint in the mojito beautifully complemented the matcha, with a flavour like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. Our waiter explained that while their Raspberry Daiquiri is an old-time favourite, Moshimo’s new Matcha Mojito is growing more popular and becoming a big seller among diners.

After our drinks, we decided to get some food and Moshimo’s Yoshoku burgers did not disappoint. Our waiter suggested the Kimchi Pulled Pork Burger and the Chicken Katsu Burger as the top two bestsellers. From the first bite, we knew we had made the right decision. The sweet brioche bun soaked up the mouth-watering curry mayo sauce, adding moisture and flavour to the crispy katsu chicken.

The portions were very filling and the food arrived quickly making the dining experience at Moshimo very enjoyable. Each burger is served with Tempura Udon Fries, taking side dishes to a whole new level. The fries were crispy and packed with spice adding the perfect crunch to the dish. You get to pick your drizzle and topping for the fries; we went with chilli garlic, mayo and chipotle sauce, which truly elevated the dish.

The burgers were originally inspired by the post-war Japanese craze for American diners, giving Moshimo a sense of history and culture.

A sense of Tranquillity and warmth

The service at Moshimo was truly fantastic. The servers were quick, smiley and kind, frequently checking in to make sure everything was good and answering any questions we had. We were fascinated by the wide selection of vegan options on offer, such as the plant-based kozara, bento, tofu and the vegan chicken katsu burger.

The overall atmosphere at Moshimo was peaceful and inviting. The dim lighting allowed us to wind down and relax as we gazed at the restaurant’s cultural pictures and Japanese décor. Moshimo has a unique layout with contrasting colours and boards hanging from the ceiling to divide the seating area. The arrangement of plants adds a sense of tranquillity and makes Moshimo the perfect spot for a date night or a catch up with friends.
