Nathan Caton: My Big Fat Blasain Wedding – Review

Nathan Caton: My Big Fat Blasian Wedding Is A Hilarious Cultural ‘Fusion’ That’ll Leave You Cry-Laughing Hits, Writes We Love brighton’s Katy Adams

If comedy had a baby with a culture clash and raised it on family dynamics you’d get ‘My Big Fat Blasain Wedding.’ – Nathan Caton’s new show.

This stand-up special hit Komedia Brighton on Thursday, May 1, with the perfect blend of personal and politically relatable comedy gold, was the first gig of Caton’s awaited tour.

The London-based comedian has been touring since the age of 19 and has since established
himself as an award-winning comedian up and down the country, appearing on classics such
as Live at The Apollo, Mock of The Week and BBC’s R4’s: Can’t Tell Nathan Caton Nothing.

Caton kicked off his brand-new tour called ‘My Big Fat Blasain Wedding’ at Brighton
comedy venue Komedia, a stand-up tour all about the highs and lows of his recent wedding,
from family fallouts, expensive invoices, to the difference in cultures between an Indian
wedding day and Caribbean send-off. As well as the similarities, like being able to down 45 litres of rum punch at the wedding dinner within an hour!

Caton invites the audience into the wonderfully absurd world of his life, with the comedian’s
impeccable crowd work being what stood out at his set in Brighton, the way he worked the
crowd was second to none, even inviting a couple of the front row on stage for a live showing
off Who Knows Who Better, Caton mixes comedy with a sort of theatrical stage presence that
captivated his audience perfectly.

The show centres on how his wedding planning turned out, a retelling of stories including his
distant uncle’s efforts for a free plane ticket, and his father-in-law going gangster on him at the reception.

Caton’s crude comedy seemed to land well with the crowd, from what was seen, the self-
deprecating, laid-back comedian, seeming not afraid to share all, making his shows that more
relatable and hilarious.

In my opinion, if you see him touring in your area, catch the show, his first gig in Brighton
did not disappoint.
