The premiere of Nose Dive Assembly on Friday, May 2 was a slick and entertaining opening to a month of shows. What really struck me about the Revel Puck ensemble was their energy, teamwork, and obvious enjoyment of their work together. They lifted each other up, literally, and also with their cheers, hugs and joy for one another’s successes.

The colourful-jumpsuit-clad team brought a packed and punchy 100-minute show featuring acts including trapeze, highwire, acrobatics, cyr wheel, teeterboard and even the UK’s only female Wheel of Death duo. They worked together to ensure balance and safety. Even though people were flying above my head, I could see Revel Puck had everything in hand.

The themes of Nose Dive Assembly were friendship, failure and flying. The hilarious and charming host Arielle guided the audience at Big Puck on a journey through risk-taking acts so smooth they almost looked effortless. Yet, when the stage cranked up and the cyr wheels teetered close to the edge or an acrobat flies deftly across the wheel of death, I was reminded how much effort and work these circus skills take to look this good.

This show is spine-tinglingly impressive and really does have the wow factor. Expect joy, great tunes, strength, camaraderie, audience participation and the urge to woop.

This show is billed as suitable for all ages and is not to be missed. Revel Puck Circus have two other headlines shows: RUCKUS and The Ugly Duckling. The Circus Yard is located on The Level and features more than 32 acts during the Brighton Fringe Festival.

Nose Dive Assembly runs until June 1 with various performances at a range of times to hopefully suit everyone throughout the Fringe.
