Preston Manor has re-opened after five years. We Love Brighton’s Stephi Prieto Went Along To A Special Spring Event
Good news for history buffs and those after a unique day out: Preston Manor has reopened its doors, inviting us to immerse ourselves in the Edwardian era’s opulence in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
My recent visit was a proper treat. From the moment I stepped into the secret garden, I was transported to another era by the sounds and the vibe. Then, wandering through the rooms, the period furniture and the Stanford family’s personal bits and bobs told fascinating stories about life in the Manor, and gave a nice bit of context to Brighton’s history. We even had the pleasure of a little tour with the curator, Alexandra Loske, who was absolutely delighted to show us around one of the main rooms and point out all the intricate details.

But it’s not just about looking around. Preston Manor’s nailed the whole history-meets-pleasure thing! We enjoyed a lovely hot chocolate, and missed out on the cakes – they’d been snapped up, it was absolutely buzzing for opening time. And to top it all off, I got lost in the ‘secret garden’, a peaceful oasis where time seemed to stand still.

Spending some time in Preston Park during the Easter holidays added a brilliant touch to the visit: the families having a laugh, the bright colours, and the festive atmosphere made for a fascinating contrast with the Manor’s stately feel. It was a real eye-opener seeing how history weaves into the community’s everyday life, and how vital it is to open up these fantastic spaces in Brighton.

If you’re looking for an immersive experience that combines history, art and a bit of relaxation, don’t miss Preston Manor, which has now reopened. It’s a place where you can learn, dream and step back in time in a truly unique setting.
Preston Manor Tearoom by Café Rust is located inside the house, accessible via the front entrance off the croquet lawn. It is open 10am to 4pm (Friday to Sunday only).

Preston Manor reopens with a sunny Edwardian Fête – News from Brighton & Hove museums

Preston Manor reopened its doors in spectacular style on Saturday, welcoming visitors to a sunshine-filled Edwardian fête that celebrated the launch of its newly refreshed visitor experience. At the heart of the day was a brand-new audio tour, offering a rich and immersive glimpse into life at the manor, told through the voices of its former inhabitants – from upstairs aristocrats like Lady Ellen to devoted staff members such as the butler Maurice Elphick.
The atmosphere was one of joyful celebration as families gathered from across the region to enjoy the festivities. Under a clear blue sky, the manor’s gardens came to life with activity: children immersed themselves in arts and crafts, a caricature artist captured cheerful portraits, and visitors challenged each other to giant games of chess. Staff dressed in Edwardian maid uniforms and 17th-century costumes added to the immersive charm, delighting guests with their attention to period detail.

The event successfully blended lively outdoor entertainment with the rich, character-led storytelling inside the manor. Guests strolled through the grounds, played traditional lawn games, and explored the house’s layered history, making for a truly memorable reopening.
Among those enjoying the day was All Together Now judge Larissa Eddie, who took a relaxing break in the manor’s newly opened tea room.
Located two miles north of Brighton’s city centre, Preston Manor is now open to the public every weekend from Friday to Sunday, between 10am and 4pm, from 5th April to 31st October 2025. Admission is £10.63 for adults and £6.40 for children, with free entry for carers.
