After attending Roti King’s Brighton launch at the beginning of May, I knew I had to visit again this time to try the full-sized portions of their sizzling menu now that they’ve been up and running for a good couple of weeks.

Roti King’s menu delights
Being sat right by their open kitchen, it was amazing to be able to see our food cooked live in front of us and gave us such a unique insight into the process of creating their Malaysian street food. My favourite part was seeing the roti dough being spun and stretched by hand. Their menu is pretty small, only taking up one page but what they do, they do good. The portions were generous for the price, with most mains coming in at the £11 mark and non-alcoholic drinks being under £5, all of which arrived relatively quickly after we ordered.
For mains, we felt that it was only right that we had roti, choosing to have both the chicken and beef roti canai. The roti was soft and fluffy with enough left over to dip in the creamy sauce at the end. We shared a side of stir fried vegetables covered in an aromatic sauce with a gentle kick to it and topped with onions.
refreshing drinks at Roti King
In terms of drinks, I had the milo ice purely as an excuse to drink chocolate milk at 21 years of age and for it to be socially acceptable. Thrilling experience – highly recommend. My friend had the Lucky Buddha beer after I mentioned how pleasantly surprised I was the first time I had one at Roti King’s Brighton launch, and she can confirm that it’s a very solid beer if you’re looking for one.
In terms of cons, having a singular bathroom in the dead middle of the restaurant with no clear labelling was a tad strange and uncomfortable, but then again, I’m not an architect so what do I know. The service was super quick with our waiters being very attentive, almost to the point we felt we were being rushed out at the end.
Overall, Roti King is an absolute addition to the Brighton food scene and a must-try for flavour fanatics.
