Roti King To Open Brighton Restaurant

Roti King is set to open in Brighton this May, its first location outside of London. The Malaysian restaurant specialises in bold flavours and will open a branch at 57 Ship Street in the Lanes.

Since its launch in London’s Euston, Roti King has gained a devoted following for its freshly made roti canai, rich curries, and authentic Malaysian cuisine. At the Brighton location, diners will have the opportunity to watch as the signature roti is hand-stretched and cooked to order in an open kitchen.

The menu will feature standout dishes such as the must-try roti canai, served with dhal, chicken, mutton, or fish kari. Other highlights include Char Kway Teow, a wok-fried dish of chewy rice noodles with prawn and egg, and Malaysian fried chicken, marinated in garlic, ginger, and lemongrass before being crisped with cornstarch and rice flour and served with homemade spicy sambal.

Founder and Head Chef Sugen Gopal said: “Brighton has always had a special place in my heart – there’s an energy to the city that makes it one of my favourite places to eat out in the UK.

“The Lanes, with its independent spirit and incredible food culture, feels like the perfect home for Roti King outside of London. I can’t wait to share our food with such a passionate and knowledgeable community.”

Housed in a Grade II-listed building that was once a 19th-century jeweller’s shop, the 50-cover restaurant blends historic charm with modern vibrancy. The interior features murals inspired by Malaysian street art, celebrating the joy and playfulness of childhood – echoing the delight that great food brings.
