Salsa & Flow Is A New Class At Flow State Hove. WeLoveBrighton’s Hannah Woodvine went Along
Tucked off the vibrant Western Road is Flow State Hove, a veritable sanctuary for yoga in all styles: restorative slow flows, energising morning sessions and newly, Salsa & Flow classes (£10), taking place on Thursdays from 7.45pm to 8.45pm. My partner and I got our dancing shoes (trainers) on and headed over to see it for ourselves…
The Venue: Flow State Hove
The spacious, wooden floored studio is gently lit with fairy lights, and decorated with natural greenery and dried flowers, creating a peaceful, tranquil atmosphere. It’s fully equipped with a cloakroom, bathroom and a mini-kitchen for coffees or herbal teas.

The Vibe
Right from the start, Verity and the other teachers created a friendly, inclusive and upbeat class atmosphere. Whether you came alone, with a partner or in a group, we were all made to feel welcome, and got to meet and practice with other salsa-curious folks.
First, the warm-up got us all trying out some simple salsa steps, claps and wiggles by following along with the instructors to some lively music. Then, we split into groups based on salsa experience (or lack thereof!) This meant everyone could learn at the level best suited to them. Each group was expertly guided through a range of salsa moves at a gentle, clear pace, before putting them together to the music. Everyone was friendly and encouraging, so we never felt too embarrassed about the odd slip-up.
We ended the class with a last boogie together, following the instructors through a range of fast-paced steps, turns, claps and cheers to ensure we all left the session on a spicy salsa high.
But that wasn’t all! After the class ended, we enjoyed the optional social dancing until 10pm, where we could chat, make new friends and practice what we’d learned to a range of salsa tunes.
