STAKEhaus At Shelter Hall Brighton: Review

STAKEhaus has just opened at Brighton Shelter Hall. We Love Brighton’s Elise Vernon went to try it out

Tucked away inside the vibrant Shelter Hall on Brighton seafront, STAKEhaus is the newest foodie pop-up turning heads—and for all the right reasons. Already a hit in London with shops/stalls) in Seven Dials Market & Camden Market, this exciting concept has made its way to the coast, and under the leadership of owner Lily Smith, it’s quickly carving out a name for itself among Brighton’s ever-evolving food scene.

Our visit began with the slow-cooked beef shin croquettes, and from the first bite, we knew we were in for something special. Perfectly crispy on the outside and packed full of flavour, these little parcels of joy were paired with a roasted garlic dip that was nothing short of perfection. Rich, comforting, and moreish—they set the bar incredibly high for what was to come.

For mains, we went classic with a bavette steak and chips. The steak was expertly cooked, incredibly tender, and melted in the mouth with every bite. Simple, honest food done to absolute perfection. But the real showstopper? The legendary Philly cheese steak sub.

We’d seen it hyped online, and now we understand why. Thinly sliced steak, grilled peppers and onions, melted cheese, and roasted garlic mayo all stuffed into a toasted sub—every bite was an explosion of flavour. The bread was soft and fresh, the meat tender and juicy, and the garlic mayo gave it that extra hit of indulgence.

Alongside the sub, we couldn’t resist the cheesy gravy chips, recommended by the super-friendly staff—and thank goodness we listened.

The chips were coated in rich, savoury gravy and gooey cheese—decadent, comforting, and everything you want in a side.

With its prime spot in Shelter Hall overlooking Brighton beach, we enjoyed our feast as the sun dipped below the horizon. It was one of the most beautiful sunsets we’ve seen all year, made even better by the warm, welcoming service we received throughout the evening.

If you’re after top-tier steak, unbeatable value, and a killer vibe, STAKEhaus is the place to be.
