The Brighton Bash Carnival celebrates black culture and is completely made up of volunteers from the Brighton community.
This year’s carnival will take place on July 26, from 11am to 8pm at St Ann’s Well Gardens.

The Brighton Bash Carnival is a family friendly event with live music, authentic African and Caribbean cuisine and Brighton black market. You can expect spoken word, parades, family activities and more.
For music lovers, the festival will include samba bands and steel pans. There is also a holistic zone where you can wind down and relax. The event is free but visitors are required to book a ticket where they can also leave a voluntary donation toward the organisation’s fees.
history behind the brighton bash carnival
The Brighton Bash Carnival is organised by BARCO, which is a Brighton-based community interest company formed in 2020. This year’s theme is ‘Crowns’ and the BARCO team offers workshops to the community and schools to craft crown-themed items to use on the day of the carnival.
The festival promotes cultural diversity and boosts the local economy and tourism. The event’s success is made possible by sponsors, partners, and supporters, who come together to support diversity, equity and inclusion in the Brighton community.
BARCO’s mission is to create events for and by the Black community in order to celebrate black culture and improve everyone’s understanding of anti-black racism. By doing this, they aim to better the experiences of black people living, working and studying in Brighton and Hove.
Afori Books Workshop
As well as The Brighton Bash Festival, BARCO also has a range of other culture workshops available, such as Afrori Books. The Afrori Books workshop celebrates black hair, heritage and history. You’ll get to create your own costume and display items for the children’s parade at the carnival.
