Brighton and Hove’s beloved independent venue, The Old Market, is ushering in the season of goodwill with a brand-new in-house production, The Gift. Running from December 3 to 21, this immersive blend of gig, theatre and communal dining offers an unconventional and joyfully chaotic way to celebrate the year’s end with friends, colleagues or family.

Co-produced and hosted by award-winning director and writer Mella Faye of Pecho Mama, The Gift draws inspiration from Berlin’s Social Muscle Club and the free-spirited creativity of Burning Man. Each night promises something different: a heady mix of live music, cabaret and playful performance, guided by a troupe of boundary-pushing artists whose skills span clowning, mime, cabaret and more. Audiences are encouraged to dive in, let go of inhibitions and become part of an evening shaped by collective imagination, unexpected rituals and shared joy.
Described by Faye as “a radical alternative to the capitalist rodeo of Christmas”, the show aims to deliver the mayhem, magic and camaraderie of a brilliantly bonkers house party, complete with 100 new friends. Tickets include a generous winter feast of sharing platters from local producers, served at cabaret-style tables as the revelry unfolds.

The Gift runs at The Old Market in Hove from December 3 to 21 (no shows Monday or Tuesday), with all performances starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are £47.50 and available via The Old Market’s box office or website.
