The Space is a Brighton based event that hosts regular interviews and Q and A’s with top names in the film and music industry. With a star-studded line up of past guests this is not just for those interested in getting into film or music, but for anyone with a basic interest in media full stop.
No matter whom you are, there absolutely will be someone they’ve hosted that will pique your interest.
With big names such as Steven Berkoff and Oscar winning Terrence Stamp as some of their previous guests, this isn’t just interviews with a bloke once on EastEnders, this is real star power. Perhaps better still, is the platform they give for some of the people behind cinema’s biggest hits.
Such as the acclaimed writer behind Sherlock, Doctor Who and the genius League of Gentlemen, Mark Gatiss. Deborah Nadoolman Landis, the Costume designer behind: Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Blues Brothers & An American Werewolf in London.
There’s of course many more, and you’d be hard pressed to find a better insight into the making of films. Millions of people dream of getting into the film industry, but through jobs and roles that are outside of the public eye, yet here any potential costume designer, writer, editor, even film critic, can gain valuable insight into parts of the industry that are integral, yet seldom talked about.
They have had plenty of musical guests too, from Slade’s singer/ songwriter Nobby Holder, to Steve Morris of Joy Division and New Order, and naturally, being a Brighton based event, Norman cook AKA Fatboy Slim.
The Space are hosting 3 big evenings over the next few months, with the upcoming event taking place on the 15th of November. This event features an interview and Q & A’s with BAFTA winning Robert Lindsay and screenwriter William Nicholson.
You may know Robert Lindsay from the classic sitcom My Family or the critically acclaimed G.B.H, but he has also acted in film and theatre, with the most notable of each being the film ‘Wimbledon’ and the stage adaptation of ‘Oliver!’.
More appealing to myself, and any budding writers, William Nicholson has worked with some of the greats, and has written world-renowned films such as Gladiator and Shadowlands.
More recently he worked on the Ron Howard film Thirteen Lives that follows the story of the famous underground cave rescue operation carried out in Thailand.
Not just limited to writing, he also donned the Director’s hat as he took on a different role for the 2019 film Hope Gap, which featured Bill Nighy and Annette Benning. Further still, he has also written the acclaimed wind of Fire trilogy, between 2000-and 2002 making him a bon-a-fide, triple-threat.
The evening will be held at the Latest Music Bar with doors opening from 19:30 start and doors opening from 18:45. Check out their website below for more details.
