Revel Puck Circus‘s show The Ugly Duckling, which is part of the Brighton Fringe Festival, was fun, dynamic and impactful. This circus theatre production explored the themes of diversity and the comforting notion that the families we encounter in life are not always united by blood. It was a remarkable and necessary production that sparked important conversations.
Concepts such as solidarity, difference, companionship and empathy are so necessary to address in the present day. Doing so in a creative and delicate way, using a story from popular culture as a pretext and reinterpreting it to raise awareness of these issues, is what motivates me to recommend it. I recommend you go and enjoy it.

The four performers were exceptionally skilled, seamlessly combining various circus theatre techniques. Their mastery of acrobatics was evident in their breathtaking use of fabrics and other apparatus, showcasing the rich versatility of circus artistry. Their sensitivity in interpreting the characters brought them to life with natural grace, making their journey and connections feel deeply authentic. It was a show that embraced the entire family, with games that could be enjoyed by people of all ages.
Adding to the magic were the stunning interplay of lights and the genuine connection between the characters. ‘The Ugly Duckling’ at Circus Yard Brighton was a poignant reminder of the many forms a family can take, and of the beauty of forming connections in unexpected places. It was a testament to the power of simple storytelling and the exceptional talent of its performers. It is highly recommended for anyone seeking a heartwarming and visually captivating experience that is light yet important.
