Brighton’s food scene is constantly evolving, and with new eateries popping up all the time, it takes something special to be the talk of the town. But just a stone’s throw from Brighton Station, located on Queens Road, you’ll find Vudu Food, a spot that’s already making way due to its fresh, handmade pizzas.

What makes Vudu Food even more exciting is their collaboration with Weirdough Pizza, a pairing that’s delivering some tasty slices to Brighton locals and visitors alike. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite before hopping on a train, meeting a friend for a quick lunch, or satisfying a late-night craving, Vudu offers that perfect mix of convenience and quality.

My friend and I popped down for an evening visit after sitting on the beach to watch the sunset and were greeted by the very friendly Felix, who’s been working with Vudu since they first opened just a few months ago. Felix instantly made us feel welcome, giving us a full run-down of the menu: pizzas by the slice or whole, a selection of fries and sides, and his personal recommendations alongside customer favourites. His passion for the food was obvious, and it’s always reassuring when someone can tell you exactly why they love what they serve.

After some deliberation (and a lot of temptation), we decided to try three different slices:

  • The Pepperoni One – a classic, loaded with plenty of rich tomato sauce, cheese, and perfectly crispy slices of pepperoni that had just the right amount of spice.
  • The Vegan One – made entirely without cheese, this was a pleasant surprise. Packed with fresh vegetables, flavourful tomato sauce, and a drizzle of olive oil, it didn’t feel like anything was missing.
  • The Posh One – a more indulgent choice, topped with high-quality ingredients such as blue cheese, balsamic vinegar glaze and rocket to gave it a richer, more complex taste.

Slices are served as they’re ready, meaning each one arrives fresh from the oven – piping hot, with the dough still perfectly soft on the inside and lightly crisp on the edges.

Watching Felix at work was part of the fun; you can see every step of the process from your seat. The open kitchen setup means you get to see every part of the process, which personally I love. Behind the counter, trays of freshly prepared pizzas are on display, and the smell alone is enough to make you hungry again even if you’ve just eaten!

My personal winner was the Pepperoni One – it had that nostalgic, comforting flavour that always hits the spot. A very close second was the Vegan One, which honestly impressed me. I’m not vegan, so I usually expect to miss the cheese, but this slice was so flavourful and well-balanced that it didn’t need it. The freshness of the vegetables and the quality of the sauce really shone through.

Of course, no pizza feast is complete without sides, and we couldn’t resist trying the pulled pork fries. They were absolutely loaded, golden fries topped with tender pulled pork, a drizzle of BBQ sauce, and just the right amount of seasoning. It was indulgent without being overwhelming, and the portion was generous enough to share (though you might not want to!).

Felix mentioned that the loaded fries are a big customer favourite, and it’s easy to see why. They’re hearty, flavour-packed, and pair perfectly with a slice or two of pizza.

Vudu Food isn’t huge, but it doesn’t need to be, the space is cosy, welcoming, and unpretentious. They do have a small outside area with a few tables which is a nice touch on a warm, sunny day. Whether you’re eating in or grabbing a takeaway, there’s a friendly, relaxed vibe that makes you want to linger a little longer.

Its location is a big plus, too. Being so close to Brighton Station means it’s ideal for commuters looking for a quick bite, or for visitors who want to start or end their Brighton experience with something delicious.
