Attention, tea lovers! The tea experience of your life awaits at a Bird & Blend Lock-In, one of the best things to do in Brighton if you can’t get enough of that sweet sweet tea. Expect delicious tea cocktails, live demonstrations of mesmerising matcha making, sensational sticky chai steaming, and of course, more tea samples than you could imagine.
The Venue
I visited the Brighton Beach branch of Bird & Blend, tucked under the seafront arches. It was spookily decorated to the extreme, with aesthetic fairy lights, pumpkin lanterns and a tea-loving skeleton dubbed Sherlock Bones.
The Vibe At The Bird & Blend Lock-in
A cosy and intimate evening; there were five tea-lover attendees and two super-friendly and knowledgeable hosts. On arrival, we made selections from a menu of tea-infused cocktails or mocktails; the spiced rum chai was amazing!
While we sipped, our enthusiastic host talked us through the history of Bird & Blend, and tea in general. Then, we moved on to the tasting, with our hosts teaching us how to know our matcha from our Yerba Mate. Each explanation was accompanied by a freshly prepared sample of the tea, brewed in a range of ways from cold-brewed with lemonade, steamed into oat milk or standard hot brews.
After our session, we had some shopping time, where we could use the free £10 gift voucher given to all attendees! And with the tickets themselves only costing £10, it’s a great value option for those planning to restock their tea cupboard.
While only scheduled to last an hour, it ended up lasting almost two! The only downside to this was there were no toilets on site, and with all the tea we’d been drinking, bathrooms would have been much appreciated by the end of the evening.
We also got a free goodie bag, containing single teabag samples, magazines and info sheets as well as two full-size pouches of loose-leaf tea!
The Verdict
For tea lovers, a Bird & Blend lock-in is the closest to paradise you’ll find in Brighton. The experience is great value for money, both informative and fun, and you’ll leave with some fabulous teas. What more could you ask for?
