Offering the finest in plant-based cuisine that delights vegans, veggies and omnivores alike is Botanique, located on Western Road. Expect quality produce, decadent desserts and show-stopping small plates, each showcasing a different vegetable in all its humble glory.
Many of the herbs, spices and aromatics are grown on-site in the UK’s first indoor hydroponic kitchen garden, allowing you to sample the very freshest, most seasonal flavours with zero food miles.
The Venue:
Despite sitting on the bustling Western Road, near Brunswick Place, Botanique feels peaceful and private. With ample seating both downstairs and upstairs, Botanique welcomes guests for brunch, lunch and dinner in their unique setting.
The Vibe:
Botanique was quiet on our arrival at 7 pm and a friendly member of staff guided us up the stunning wooden spiral staircase to an intimate dining space: softly lit and bursting with greenery.
We chose three small plates to share between the two of us: the Fennel, (which came roasted with black olives and a lemon crema) the Sweet Potato (roasted with harissa, topped with creamy coconut labneh and served with tangy pickled chillies, lentils and sweet potato crisps) and the pan-fried Oyster Mushrooms, served on a spinach and garlic puree.
We also shared two sides: the Triple-Cooked Chips, served with cacio e pepe and carrot chutney aioli, and the Rosemary Focaccia, which was accompanied by three seasonally-inspired dips.
All of the food was delightful; the freshness and Botanique’s mission to bring the food to the plate in as few steps as possible created some truly unforgettable flavours.
We couldn’t resist sharing a dessert, of course, and opted for the chocolate ganache, served with a creamy coconut dulce de leche, crisp hazelnut praline and toasted coconut flakes.
The Verdict:
Whether you’re plant-based or not, the stunning flavours, precise presentation and romantic setting make Botanique a must-visit for diners in Brighton.
