Claiming to end the festival season with a bang, Boundary Festival runs in late September with DnB, electronic and rave music for those who can’t let go of the festival vibes.
Travel
In a word: rammed. The whole of East Sussex was waiting for the bus from Old Steine, and it took an hour to get to Boundary from Central Brighton. So, if travelling by bus, leave more time than you think, or, go early in the day to avoid the rush.
Entry
Getting into the festival was seamless. The bus stopped just outside the festival entrance and checkpoints. ID, bag, sniffer dog and body scanner checks were conducted quickly and efficiently, so I was inside in no time and felt safe and comfortable.
Wellbeing and Safety
This was a clear priority, with a calm welfare room for chilling out or getting support. The Welfare Crew offered emotional and physical support to anyone who needed it, as well as practical support by providing suncream, sanitary products, condoms and earplugs, in a calming environment.
An expert medical team were also on-site, equipped to provide a range of medical support. Lockers, phone chargers and free drinking water stations were also provided for everyone’s comfort.
The Festival
The summer vibes were certainly there, basking in sunlight the lively and diverse crowd, decked out in shades, bucket hats and the snazziest of shirts.
Four legendary stages of music: the main stage, the big top, the top of the hill and the woodland stage. Each busted out non-stop bangers on cracking sound equipment and with serious light shows. The Big Top, a HUGE, self-enclosed DJ canopy was great for the indoor gig experience, while the outdoor stages were perfect for soaking up the sunny weather while getting on down. The only problem was an electrical cable falling down from the ceiling of The Big Top during a set, causing a show stop and temporary closure of the tent!
Also on site, there was a huge range of food stalls catering for all tastes, from classic festival grub like cheesy fries and fresh griddled burgers to Greek street food, fresh noodles and loaded Mac n Cheese. My burrito was the perfect way to recharge while watching the sun go down over Stanmer Park. There were also multiple bar tents, offering chilled soft drinks, cider, beer, wine and canned alcopops.
If the thrumming baselines weren’t thrilling enough, there were a range of adrenaline-pumping fairground rides, from the Extreme Waltzers to a massive in-air rotating swing, or the intense Speed ride, each priced between £5 and £10 per ride.
As the sun set over the beautiful scenery, the party vibes continued. String and fairy lights illuminated the festival and gave a new atmosphere to the outdoor stages and their stunning light shows.
The Verdict
Boundary was a blast! With heaps to do for hardcore ravers and street-food lovers, there will never be a dull moment. Whether you want to dance the night (and day!) away or soak up the atmosphere in the stunning Stanmer Park, Boundary truly does end festival season with a bang.
