Bin collection days across Brighton & Hove will change over the Christmas and New Year period, so residents are being urged to check their revised collection dates to avoid missed pick-ups.

If you live in the city, make sure you put your refuse and recycling out by 6am on your revised collection day (or 5am for food waste).

Revised collection dates

During the festive period, collections will run earlier than usual for most households.

If your usual collection day is:

  • Monday – collected on Saturday 20 December and Monday 29 December
  • Tuesday – collected on Monday 22 December and Tuesday 30 December
  • Wednesday – collected on Tuesday 23 December and Wednesday 31 December
  • Thursday – collected on Wednesday 24 December and Saturday 3 January
  • Friday – collected on Saturday 27 December and Friday 2 January

Collections will return to normal from Monday 5 January.

Residents can check their specific collection dates online and are encouraged to do so, as schedules may vary.

Track your bin collection in real time

Brighton & Hove residents can now track their refuse and recycling collections in real time. Live updates are available via the council website or through your My Account, allowing you to follow progress on the day of collection.

Garden waste collections

Garden waste collections will pause over the Christmas and New Year period.
The last collection will take place on Friday 19 December, with the service resuming from Monday 5 January.

Christmas tree recycling

Real Christmas tree recycling sites across the city will be open from Monday 29 December until Friday 6 February.

Before recycling your tree, please:

  • Remove all decorations
  • Remove any pots or stands

Trees must not be left on pavements, roads or beside communal bins, as this is considered fly-tipping and could result in a fine.

New for this year: residents with a garden waste subscription can leave their Christmas tree next to their garden waste bin for collection on their usual day.

Household Waste Recycling Sites (tips)

Brighton & Hove’s household waste recycling centres are located:

  • Off Old Shoreham Road in Hove
  • Off Wilson Avenue in Brighton
