Brighton’s New Summer Park & Ride Launches in August

Brighton & Hove City Council is launching a new Park & Ride scheme this August to ease congestion and provide a smoother way into the city during the busy summer weekends.

Running on select Sundays and across the August Bank Holiday weekend, the new service will operate from the University of Sussex campus in Falmer. With space for over 500 vehicles, the scheme offers a convenient option for drivers to park up and hop on a dedicated bus to central Brighton.

For just £7 per vehicle (including all passengers), Park & Ride buses will run every 15 minutes between 9am and 9pm, dropping off at Marlborough Place – just a short stroll from the North Laine, Pavilion Gardens, and seafront.

Councillor Trevor Muten, Cabinet Member for Transport and City Infrastructure, said: “Introducing a new Park & Ride scheme was one of our top priorities, and I’m delighted to see it coming to life this summer.

“This trial will offer a hassle-free and affordable way for visitors to enjoy the city, while also helping reduce traffic pressure in the centre. We’ll be using this opportunity to monitor and learn, with the aim of developing a permanent Park & Ride in the future.”

The service is being launched in partnership with the University of Sussex, which is providing the car park facilities at its Falmer campus.

Professor Sasha Roseneil, Vice Chancellor of the university, added: “We’re proud to partner with Brighton & Hove City Council on this initiative. Our campus is perfectly placed for a quick and easy bus connection into the heart of the city, and we hope the scheme will encourage more sustainable ways to explore everything Brighton has to offer.”
