Theatre Royal Brighton is gearing up for a nostalgic, high-octane finale as Cruel Intentions: The ‘90s Musical arrives in town from Tuesday June 24 to Saturday June 28. Following acclaimed runs in London, New York, and across the UK and Ireland, this thrilling production takes its final bow on the Brighton stage.
Based on the cult 1999 film and the French classic Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Cruel Intentions combines scandalous drama with a soundtrack of unforgettable ‘90s pop hits. Expect powerhouse tracks from Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, TLC, R.E.M., Natalie Imbruglia, and more, in a show that promises a wild ride through teen temptation, deception, and desire.
At the heart of the story are manipulative step-siblings Sebastian Valmont and Kathryn Merteuil, whose cruel bet to seduce the headmaster’s innocent daughter, Annette Hargrove, quickly spirals into a tangled mess of secrets, betrayal, and unexpected feelings. Set in an elite Manhattan high school, the story’s explosive twists are amplified by the era’s most iconic music — making it the ultimate ‘90s night out.
The cast includes Abbie Budden as Annette, reprising her role after previous standout performances, alongside Will Callan as the brooding Sebastian and Nic Myers as the cunning Kathryn. They’re joined by Lucy Carter, Luke Conner Hall, Joe Simmons, Gabriella Williams, Kevin Yates, and a talented ensemble featuring Olivia Brookes, Ben Fenwick, Sophie Hutchinson, and Onuri Smith.
Directed by Jonathan O’Boyle and choreographed by Gary Lloyd, the creative team also includes Polly Sullivan (set and costume design), Nick Richings (lighting), Chris Whybrow (sound), and Musical Supervisor Jeremy Wootton with Will Joy as Musical Director.
Produced by Bill Kenwright, the show was created by Jordan Ross, Lindsey Rosin, and Roger Kumble — who also wrote and directed the original film — and originally produced by Eva Price.
