Brighton’s Stanmer Park will be in full bloom this Sunday, July 13, as the Wild Flower Conservation Society hosts a free family-friendly open day celebrating the colourful and vital world of native wild flowers.
Running from 11am to 4pm, the event invites nature lovers of all ages to explore the wonders of local chalk grasslands, learn about wild flower conservation, and even take a piece of the park home by purchasing wild flowers for their own gardens.

The day will feature a rich line-up of talks and activities led by experts in the field, including award-winning garden designer Sarah Mayfield and Dr Chris Cockell from the renowned Millennium Seed Bank at Wakehurst.
Nature writer and wildlife guide Michael Blencowe will lead a guided walk through a nearby wildflower meadow, offering insight into the species that make Brighton’s grasslands unique.

For younger visitors, a host of nature-themed activities will be on offer – including a ‘moth light trap reveal’ at 11.15am, which will give children the chance to see the moths collected overnight in a special light trap.
Councillor Alan Robins, Cabinet Member for Sports, Recreation and Libraries, said: “The Wild Flower Conservation volunteers work incredibly hard to enhance our green spaces and raise awareness of the importance of nurturing and protecting our native wild flowers. I’d encourage everyone to support this free family-friendly event while enjoying a sunny Sunday afternoon in Stanmer Park.”
The Wild Flower Conservation Society is a volunteer-led charity based in a polytunnel within Stanmer Park. Supported by Brighton & Hove City Council, the group works to increase local biodiversity, reconnect people with nature, and protect the specialist wildlife that depends on specific wild flowers to survive.
Whether you’re a seasoned gardener, a budding naturalist, or simply looking for a relaxing day outdoors, the Open Day promises inspiration, discovery, and a deepened connection to the natural world.
