Kings Road Paddling Pool Reopens This July

Families can look forward to sun-soaked days by the sea once again, as Brighton & Hove’s Kings Road Paddling Pool is set to reopen on July 1, just in time for the summer holidays.

Next to the Kings Road playground and only a short stroll from the West Pier, the pool has long been a go-to destination for local families during the warmer months. There had been concern earlier this year that it would remain closed due to urgent safety repairs and the upcoming A259 arches works, but thanks to a timely change in schedule and swift action from the council, the pool is back in action.

Councillor Alan Robins, Cabinet Member for Sports, Recreation and Libraries, said: “We know how popular this paddling pool is and how important it is for families. It’s a fantastic, free resource where families can spend the day, make lifelong memories and, hopefully, enjoy the good weather this summer.”

Although the pool is nearing the end of its usable life and will require more extensive work following the A259 project, councillors made the decision to go ahead with the essential repairs to ensure the space remains open for the busy summer season. Work is now complete, and the pool has been refilled. Once chlorine levels are tested and confirmed safe by Freedom Leisure staff, the gates will officially reopen.

Councillor Trevor Muten, Cabinet Member for Transport and City Infrastructure, said: “I’m delighted that, working alongside our contractor Freedom Leisure, we’ve been able to bring the pool back into use. We’ll be consulting with residents about the future of the site once the arches work is finished, but for now it’s wonderful to see it ready for summer.”

The Kings Road pool will join other splash-friendly spots across the city – including Hove Lagoon, Saunders Park, and the water feature at The Level – all of which are already open and proving popular in the summer sun.
