A popular vegan cafe in Brighton Open Market – Smorl’s – is closing after more than 10 years.
Smorl’s Houmous-Deli is a family-run business specialising in artisa handcrafted houmous made from high quality ingredients and based on traditional Middle Eastern receipes.

Owners of Smorl’s wrote on social media: “Hello houmous addicts . Sad news to impart : Our Vegan Cafe in Brighton Open Market will be closing from Saturday 28th June.
“Bidding farewell to our home for over 10 years with a heavy heart , ever thankful for the shared experience along the way from our loyal customers and amazing staff. You empowered us with the enthusiasm to develop a unique chickpea based vegan menu to be ever proud of .
“We will continue to make houmous in the short term available with our local suppliers. We relish hatching plans to continue making #smorlshoumous and feeding your Smorls addiction in the future . Please keep following for updates ! Spreading the love to all.”
Smorl’s Houmous is stocked in various venues in Brighton & Hove, including wholefood shops, health food stores, and cafes.
Smorl’s Kitchen’s menu included Falafel Pittas, Wraps and Salad Boxes, Dirty Dauphinoise Dippers, Sambha Dhal Soup and Falafel Bolognese, all including its signature houmous.
