The Old Market (TOM) has been voted the Audience Choice Best Large Venue at this year’s Brighton Fringe Awards, securing its place as a standout cultural hub in the city’s arts scene.
The annual Brighton Fringe Awards celebrate the creativity, innovation, and community spirit that define the festival — and the Audience Choice category is particularly special, as it’s decided entirely by public vote. This recognition reflects the affection and support TOM continues to receive from its audiences.

Throughout the 2025 Fringe season, TOM delivered a rich and diverse programme of events. Highlights included Toxic, the acclaimed show written by and starring Nathaniel J Hall, presented by Dibby Theatre, and The Black Cat Cabaret, a dazzling variety night featuring performances from Joanna Woodward, Le Gateau Chocolat, Carol Cates, Chi Chi Revolver, and Aurora Starr.

Helen Jewell, Creative Director at TOM, said: “Wow! We are so honoured to be recognised by the Brighton Fringe audiences with this win. The award is a testament to the dedication and passion of Team TOM — our Front of House team, the technicians, and everyone behind the scenes who make TOM the beautiful and welcoming space that it is. To everyone who voted, thank you so much – we’re looking forward to even more amazing times ahead in 2025 and beyond.”
Founded in 2011 by the creators of the internationally renowned show STOMP, TOM has grown into a key fixture of the Brighton & Hove cultural landscape. In 2024, it entered a new era as a registered charity, reaffirming its commitment to accessibility and creative excellence.
Known for its eclectic and inclusive programming, TOM showcases both emerging and established talent, while also producing its own in-house festivals such as Reigning Women and In The Box. This latest award confirms what many locals already know: The Old Market is one of Brighton’s most beloved performance spaces.
