Ever since my first tryst with Sofar Sounds Brighton at their Christmas concert, I have probably vowed to attend their themed events any time I get the opportunity to. Hence, for the day of love, I thought, what better way to spend the evening than surrounded by love-filled tunes at the Sofar Sounds Valentine’s Day show?
Location of Sofar Sounds In Brighton on the 14th of February 2025

For those of you who are not familiar with the Sofar Sounds concept but enjoy a bit of mystery and a lot of good music, I would recommend these carefully curated shows not just in terms of the talented local artists who perform at the shows but also the beautifully ambient and unique locations that allow you to explore corners of the city you might not have been to before.
For this show, we were informed of the location around 48 hours before the event, as is the tradition, and it was held in the All Saints Brighton store. It was quite surprising at first to enter a clothing store for a concert, but it was delightful as the store staff left no stone unturned to make it an exciting experience by holding a raffle prize for a leather jacket.
Hence, an additional benefit of attending a Sofar concert is you might be in for a surprise gift in addition to everything else. There was also a bar station set up to provide refreshments throughout the show.
The Show: Sofar Sounds In Brighton 2025

Now, for the lineup. Firstly, we had Brighton-based band, Soft Top. The lead singer’s witty explanations behind the heartfelt love songs, accompanied with a soulful voice and a beautiful cello accompaniment, left the crowd swaying to the tunes. Songs like ‘Broken Glass’ and ‘Violet’ had relatable lyricism as well as wonderfully composed tunes, which made me immediately follow them on Instagram and stream their released songs on repeat.
Up next was Marns, who is newly based in Brighton and originally from Bristol. Marns already has a glorious career, and it resounded in her voice as she enchanted the crowd with music that had notes of blues, jazz, and soul and yet was presented in a pop version, which made you want to sing along.
Lastly, the vibes were picked up by Samuel Ashton & the Instincts, who have earlier performed at many other Sofar concerts. Their use of bass, drums, guitar, trumpet, and Samuel Ashton’s powerful voice got the crowds grooving even while being seated. Songs like ‘Breathe Easy’ left the audience refreshed and acted as the perfectly uplifting wrap-up for the beautifully curated event.
Be sure to book tickets for their next one-of-a-kind events that bring artists and locals together in the most brilliant fashion if you want to experience this all for yourself!
