Fabrica Christmas Ceilidh in Brighton: Review

The legendary Christmas Ceilidh was an event recently hosted at Fabrica, organised to help fundraise for the charity’s amazing work. Led by the Brighton Ceilidh Collective, this was a fantastic opportunity to boogie while raising money for this fantastic cause.

Fabrica is located within Brighton’s iconic lanes and is a registered charity hosting a range of talks, events, workshops and exhibitions in a historic Grade II listed building. In addition to monthly film screenings for a range of audiences, large-scale immersive exhibitions and community events, Fabrica works closely with schools, and further and higher-education students, supporting access to the arts for all, to support creative development and community integration.

The historic Fabrica building was perfect for this festive occasion, with the high ceilings and open beams decked with greenery and fairy lights. It was straight from a picture book and genuinely felt like stepping back in time to a Regency ball.

Also on-site was a very well-stocked bar, offering classic alcoholic and soft drinks, delicious mulled wine and festive snacks like mince pies.

The Brighton Ceilidh collective offered us high-quality toe-tapping music all night long, and clear, patient guidance from the caller.

The experienced and hilarious caller settled us in for the evening with a gentle introduction to dancing to count and splitting into groups. We were in safe hands as she led us through a diverse range of dances, in both pairs, small groups and all together.

The caller guided us through every step, with plenty of practice before we launched into the dance, accompanied by the expert band’s performances of ceilidh-fied versions of Christmas classics. We also had plenty of breaks: the perfect opportunities to catch your breath, grab a drink and take in the atmosphere.

The Verdict:

The Fabrica Christmas Ceilidh was a friendly, fun and festive way to learn new dances, make friends, and support this excellent cause.
