On April 20, 2025, The Booth Museum of Natural History closed to improve its collections and infrastructure. The temporary closure is expected to last 12 months and in that time numerous upgrades to the museum will take place.

The Booth Museum is all about birds, butterflies, fossils, and bones. Founded as a Victorian collector’s private museum, the Booth Museum brings natural history to life with interactive displays and ‘hands on’ activities.
History of The Booth Museum
The museum was founded in 1874 by naturalist and collector Edward Thomas Booth, who was passionate about natural history and especially ornithology, the study of birds. At the museum, you can see his pioneering dioramas, and over 300 cases of fascinating natural displays. There are bears, birds, a dodo skeleton, and even a mermaid!
The Booth will host drop-in days during the closure, keep an eye on Brighton and Hove Museums What’s on page for more information.
