Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner: Where To Go For Food In Brighton?

Food can be a controversial debate at the best of times, with families never fitting on the same page dietarily, and being in unfamiliar surroundings can breed quite the conflict. It’s hard to pick, and sometimes you’ll find yourself settling for an unspectacular meal at a chain restaurant you could go to anywhere else in the country. If you’re looking for food in Brighton, to alleviate any familial stress, here are some suggestions for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner:

Breakfast

Little Miss Piggies

The perfect breakfast place, Little Miss Piggies offers that classic, English breakfast you dream of waking up to in the morning. It’s hardly gourmet, but it’s a treat we all crave every now and then. It’s great for vegan’s too, with a full Vegan English Breakfast as an option, because it wouldn’t be Brighton if there wasn’t a Vegan alternative.

Ran by a local family, the owner and staff are jovial, the food and service is timely and the bacon is somehow better than any other bacon I’ve ever had. If you prefer something lighter, they do a cracking Eggs Benedict, and a small but delicious range of Ciabatta-bread Sandwiches.

Lunch

Iydea

Brighton is a safe space not just for gamblers for vegans. There’s always a plethora of Vegan options no matter where you eat, which naturally draws many vegans and vegetarians from around the world to visit and enjoy the same level of choice meat eaters are privy to. Iydea is a Vegan café with a menu that changes monthly.

Always striving to provide more options for plant-based diets, the selection of food on offer makes it hard to choose your meal! There’s plenty of Indian inspiration with dishes like the vegan ‘Gumbo Roti’ a favourite amongst regulars. Or try some homemade artisanal Italian food, such as the Gnocchi pasta Bake, which makes for a delightful lunch or early dinner.

This is a stop for any Plant-eaters, or meat eaters looking to give their body some love. No matter your diet, Iydea is perfect for a lunch break in the midst of exploring the lanes

Moshimo

Suitable for lunch and dinner, Moshimo is an award winning Japanese restaurant. The Sushi is to die for, and entirely guilt free, with their commitment to sustainable fishing and maintaining a carbon neutral business. As high quality Japanese food goes, it’s comparatively affordable, with a £50 ‘sushi boat’ (Wooden boat filled with a chef’s choice of Sushi) comfortably feeding 2 people.

If cold fish isn’t for you, they have a great range of hot foods on the menu, with the ever popular Katsu curry a mainstay here. Their smaller plates make for a great lunch, with flavour bursting from every dish.

A Sweet Treat to Keep you Going

Crosstown Doughnuts

Tired of Krispy Kreme? Does their selection feel a little unoriginal? Or perhaps you find their limited Vegan range cripplingly underwhelming? Well, Crosstown Doughnuts has you covered in all areas. Delectable hand-crafted doughnuts, with a huge emphasis on vegan inclusivity, you wont need to choose between Veganism and your taste buds.

With a large Vegan range and an emphasis on creating unique flavours, it’s hard to limit yourself to just one! Their Easter Hot-cross Bun inspired doughnut is divine, and amazingly,  Vegan. Not that you could tell!

After a nice lunch, a doughnut from Crosstown goes down a treat, with an ever changing selection to choose from including chocolate Truffle, Strawberry Cheesecake, Blood Orange, Guinness and Baileys (Much better than it sounds!) and of course, their Vanilla Bean Glaze, which is an exciting twist on a classic!

Dinner

Manju

The word ‘authentic’ is thrown around a lot, especially regarding food, lessening the meaning and making it hard to differentiate between actual authentic cuisine. Sometimes, food might be a little better than some of its competition, resulting in reviewers unfamiliar with actual authenticity, hailing the establishment as authentic.

When it comes to Manju’s however, there is none more authentic to Gujarati cuisine. It may not look like much from the outside, but the best places to eat are often the smallest. Everything is vegetarian, as is essential to Gujarati cuisine, and all food is lovingly prepared by the 80 year old owner and her daughter in law. You won’t find anglicised traditions of Tikka Masala, Garlic Naan or Butterfly Prawn, with the restaurant, priding itself from providing a taste of the real India.

They claim they ‘aren’t for everyone’ but it’s  incredibly highly regarded by almost everyone who’s been. Many go in a self proclaimed lover of Indian food, and come out a changed person, as the local Indian takeaway will never so much as suffice again.

Fatto A Mano

A pizzeria just at the edge of the lanes, on a warm night at Fatto A Mano, it’s easy to forget you’re in boring old England. The ambience, the food and the charming location, reminds me of eating on a European holiday. A palpable sense of content permeating the air, a relaxed and enjoyable spot to eat, with just enough going on to keep that unbearable wait for food after a busy day that has left you famished.

For families, couples, individuals unafraid of eating at a restaurant alone, Fatto A Mano is a great choice for dinner. More than just a safe option, Fatto A Mano has gorgeous, genuine Neapolitan Pizza, that will leave you unable to settle for a late night Pizza from the local kebab house ever again.
