Update: Kitti’s and the Kiosk closed on August 17 after five months trading. The managers wrote on Facebook: “As the previous management team of Kitti’s Saltdean, we would like to express our family’s deepest gratitude for the incredible support shown by the local community over the past five months, and especially during our final weekend. We will truly miss your conversations, your friendly faces, and the sense of community you brought with you. Please join us and raise a glass together on our final trading day – it would mean the world to share that moment with you. You will always receive a warm welcome at The Duck Inn, Rottingdean.
“We would also like to clarify that it was never our intention to manage Kitti’s for only a short time. Our sole aim from the outset was to purchase the premises from the current owner. With that in mind, we invested significant time, energy, and personal finances into improving both the building and the equipment so that everyone could enjoy it.
“During our tenure, we raised the food hygiene rating from one star to three, refurbished the kiosk and kitchen, installed walk-in fridges and pumps, replaced windows, and added much-needed additional bathrooms. Every improvement and renovation was undertaken at our family’s expense, from our own bank account, without any financial support from the owner.
“It is important to note that we were never employed by the owner of the lease, nor were we paid any wage or salary. We entered into an agreement with the understanding that we would purchase the property and immediately began the urgent repairs required to keep the premises open.
“Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, the sale could not be completed. This outcome was through no fault of Kitti’s itself or its management. We sincerely wish Julieanne, the current owner, the very best for the future of both herself and the premises. We also hope that the improvements we made will continue to benefit all the loyal customers who love this wonderful place.”
Kitti’s and the Kiosk has been returned to previous owner Julieanne Gilburt, who is running it as Whitecliffs, the venue it was before.
