The Venue

Komedia Brighton is centrally located on Gardner Street and offers a range of events. Heading Down the Hatch to the basement, you’ll find yourself in a softly-lit space, with candlelit tables, cosy booths and a slowly spinning disco ball to cover the audience in a glittery glow.

The Vibe

The evening was relaxed and informal, with a well-stocked bar offering a range of soft and alcoholic drinks, as well as their snack menu with dishes from loaded hash browns, to classic or vegan nachos, as well as fried chicken wings, halloumi fries and salt & pepper squid. We soaked up the buzzing atmosphere with a glass of wine and the excellent vegan-loaded fries and nachos.

Our host, William Stone, got us excited for the night ahead, with witty one-liners and some audience participation. Afterwards, we were treated to three quality acts in addition to our compere/host, each of which treated us to the very best in queer and alternative comedy.

After the captivating comedy of Kemah Bob, I was flirted with by a queer version of God, played by the hilarious Jodie Mitchell as John Travulva. The amazing Olga Koch rounded off the night, with a mesmerising presence and side-splitting anecdotes. We felt in safe hands throughout the night and fully relaxed into a night of cracking comedy.

The Verdict

A must-do for everyone, especially lovers of queer and alternative comedy. And with students, under-26 & concession tickets for just £5, or £12 for a standard ticket, it’s a bargain way to support a good cause (MindOut – the only LGBTQ mental health service in the UK). So, if you’re searching for something to do in Brighton, head along on the first Sunday of the month, with doors at 6 pm and the show starting at 7 pm.
