]]>
Poker is one of the most popular games to play in a casino or online. The game itself has a long and storied history and is so beloved that there are televised tournaments and multiple people have become millionaires thanks to the turn of a few cards.

Poker has roots back in the earliest days of civilisation, with variations of the game being played in Europe as early as the Renaissance – but the game we know came to the US with the immigrants and developed in the early 19th century.

If you haven’t played before, there are several versions of the game – some are based around community cards (that can be used by any player to form a winning hand), while others aren’t. The earliest US games include stud poker, and they were commonly played on Mississippi riverboats.

One of the most popular versions of the game is known as Texas Hold’Em, and this is the game that is most often focused on in online poker and in the biggest cash tournaments – and it is the reason why the World Series of Poker was established back in 1970, alongside other major global and more local competitions.

If you haven’t played poker before, then get a taste and learn how to play online poker, while the rules are straightforward, recognising what makes a good hand, when you should bluff and when you should fold only really comes from practice.

When you’ve got the basics sorted, then you might want to get a taste of play at a live table – and that is when finding a good place to play poker near you. There are plenty of things to do in Brighton, with poker being a popular pastime. There are a few official venues around Brighton that might just be right for you, and below is a description of them so you can choose the best one.

Grosvener Casino Pier Nine Brighton

Situated on Pier Nine, the Grosvener Casino is part of the global Grosvener brand – and you can expect more than just some poker. Set over three floors, this casino offers slots, live gaming tables, a huge screen to watch sporting events, and a restaurant with awe-inspiring views across the water.

On the ground floor – which has the longest opening hours – you will find machine after machine offering some of the best slot games as well as electronic roulette. If you want to play some live poker, then you will be more interested in the gaming tables on the first floor. This is open from 7am until 3pm on Friday and Saturday. Here you will be able to take part in blackjack and roulette games, but also some of the best 3-card poker with well-trained, friendly, and efficient croupiers.

On the top floor is a huge 98” video wall that is made for watching the biggest sporting events (and betting on them, of course) as well as some more live gaming tables – and there are regular cash games and poker tournaments to take part in. You’ll love getting a bite to eat and a drink in the waterside restaurant, too.

Genting Casino

Another well-known casino chain, Genting casinos share the same ethos – a smart casual environment with a friendly atmosphere – and the opportunity to play all your favourite games in one place. You don’t need to be a member to play, and the casino is open from 2pm to 4am.

The expansive and well-appointed games room includes all the usual slot game machines and electronic roulette, and if you want to channel your inner James Bond then by all means put on a tuxedo and get involved in some live American roulette.

When it comes to poker, this is another place where the live games focus on the fast-paced 3-card poker games. While there are few tournaments held here, you can play multiple cash games at a level that suits your personal bankroll.

Rendezvous Casino

Compared to the other two locations on this list, Rendezvous Casino does not feel like a bland conglomerate casino – instead, it feels like the best casinos from the capital. This is because it is owned and operated by the Metropolitan Gaming company who also own 11 other venues in the UK and in Egypt.

Described as the ‘Player’s casino’ in Brighton, there is no loud music to distract your play and there are plenty of gamming tables, slots, and electronic Roulette machines all on the same floor.

The Poker Room is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 6.30pm, and this is where you will find weekly games and cash tournaments. You can buy a Poker Package that includes two hours of tournament play as well as a Learn to Plays session, and there is no membership required.

Rendezvous hosts the Sky Poker Tour, which makes it a particularly important part of the poker landscape in the UK.

It’s the Laughing Dog cafe where we finally found a place to sit down. This interview was conducted in late summer, and the streets of Brighton were thriving.

The cafe itself was busy, but there was a spot in the corner, a table for five, and with a perfect view of the ocean. We took out our iPhones – we always use a couple just in case one of them dies on us – and tapped on the recorder. This is what we recorded:

An Introduction To The JohnSlots Writers

‘- and the seagull just took off with them. The whole bag. I was left with only a lemon-lime soda, and even that was leaking out the bottom, so I had to down it. I couldn’t stop burping for five minutes.’

We catch the end of Alex’s seagull story and the crew laughs. The first thing that is evident is how close the expert casino authors from JohnSlots are. There’s a unity between them that you don’t find in other areas of work.

‘We have to be close,’ says Harper Gallagher, ‘otherwise we’re all going to be writing different things and confusing the reader.’

‘True,’ says Alex Hussain, ‘if I don’t like seagulls, then no-one is allowed to like seagulls.’

‘I like seagulls,’ Leanna Madden pipes in playfully.

Alex takes a sip of his coffee. ‘We’ll chat.’

At this point, we realise that they could easily go off on a tangent, as most writers we interview tend to do. So we pull them into the subject matter. Brighton. Specifically, gaming Brighton.

Brighton And Gaming

‘You wouldn’t know,’ Alex starts, ‘but Brighton is a really game-focused city. I mean, we’re only a few doors down from the Loading Bar. That’s a gaming cafe where people can buy coffee, buy dinner, and play a load of arcade and console games. A few doors down from that is Brighton Pier, which has one of the most famous arcades in the country.’

‘It has a pretty thriving casino scene, too.’ Harper takes a sip of her hot chocolate. ‘The land-based casinos here have really changed to account for the explosion of online casinos. Now, they’re not just about the games, they’re an experience. You go to a land-based casino here, and you’re greeted with fancy drinks, even restaurants.’

‘Not to mention the eSports Society,’ says Leanna. ‘That’s a vibrant community that celebrates the world of gaming and eSports. I think it’s been going for around two years now.’

Business And Brighton

We ask at this point what business opportunities they see in the city.

‘Oh, loads.’ Alex almost slams down his coffee in excitement. ‘The thing about Brighton is that it still feels relatively untapped. It’s like a secret gaming city, where only the people in Brighton know how gaming-focused it is. And us iGaming writers, of course.’

‘There’s certainly a lot of potential,’ says Harper. ‘Whether you’re a slot developer, an online casino start-up, a gaming cafe, anything! You’d find that Brighton is a great hub to get things off the ground. Let’s compare it to London, for a second. The average age in London right now is around 39-years-old. The average age in Brighton is around 35-years-old.

‘Now consider that the average age of a gamer is about 33-years-old. The demographic you’re trying to reach is more prevalent here in Brighton, bar around two years. Not only this, but Brighton is a growing city. Just last year, the population rose by nearly 2%, and when you consider how many tourists visit in the summer, that’s a lot of people who would be interested in what you have to offer.’

‘I think there was a search increase of 83.5% from tourists looking to visit Brighton in 2023,’ says Leanna.

‘Exactly,’ replies Harper.

The Future Opportunities

‘I’d like to see a Brighton-themed slot,’ Alex pipes in. ‘I don’t think I’ve ever seen one. But there are plenty of London-themed slots.’

‘Well, maybe a game developer will have success there,’ Harper shrugs enthusiastically.

‘I think in terms of the eSports scene,’ says Leanna, ‘Brighton will become a hub over the coming years. It’s such a perfect place to put on events, especially with the society and how many players there are in the city alone.’

We finish up by asking what the future holds for Brighton’s gaming scene.

‘The possibilities are endless,’ replies Harper. ‘It feels like every scene is burgeoning right now, whether that’s casinos, online casinos, arcades, gaming cafes, eSports, everything. It’s an exciting time for both established and start-up companies to get involved.’

‘They will all do pretty well,’ finishes Alex, ‘I’m sure of it. They just have to watch out for the seagulls.’

Brighton is a picturesque city on the south coast of England, that is a top UK destination for local visitors and international tourists alike. Whether it is raining or sunny, the city has many attractions and activities that can be enjoyed. With natural beauty, tasty food, historic attractions, and a buzzing nightlife, there is something for everyone in Brighton.

A Day at the Beach

When thinking of Brighton, the first thing that pops into mind is the iconic Brighton Beach, which is one of the most famous beaches in the UK. No matter the weather, it is impossible to visit the city without taking a stroll through the renowned pier or seaside promenade. For over a century, Brighton Pier has become a landmark of the city with arcades, rides, restaurants, and unbeatable views of the beach. Brighton Beach itself is a smooth pebbled beach, which is the ideal place to relax whether sunbathing – if it is sunny – or watching a stunning sunset. There are also many activities that can be enjoyed including kayaking, paddle boarding, volleyball, and frisbee among others.

Brighton’s Boutiques

If it is a colder day, Brighton has a range of shopping options from unique boutiques to huge shopping centres for you to explore. In Brighton Marina, you can find specialised shops and stalls with jewellery, homeware, and clothing while enjoying the waterfront sights. If you are looking for mainstream stores, then it is worth checking out the Churchill Square Shopping Centre, which is one of the biggest malls in Brighton. Steeped in rich history, the Lanes are narrow and winding streets jam-packed with vintage shops, boutiques, and antique stores. If you are looking for unique souvenirs and artwork, then this is the best spot in Brighton to search.

A Taste of the Culinary Scene

Brighton has a rich culinary scene, whether you are looking for hidden gems, authentic spots, or fine dining experiences. You can find any kind of cuisine in the city from international dishes to classic British meals. At food markets like the Open Market and Street Diner, you can pick and choose to have a taste of all the cuisines in Brighton. For a sit-down meal, it is worth checking out the North Laine and Lanes area, which is a hub of restaurants, pubs, and cafes. Since it is a coastal location, it is recommended to try the seafood that Brighton has to offer. Along the seafront, there are numerous restaurants and cafes where you can eat high-quality seafood while looking out onto the beach.

Historical & Cultural Gems

Brighton has many cultural gems that can be visited on your trip, but these are a few that cannot be missed. The Royal Pavilion was once a royal residence and has become Brighton’s most visited attraction. The stunning palace is an architectural feat that combines regency tradition with Indian and Chinese inspiration. Brighton Museum and Art Gallery boasts impressive exhibitions for further exploration of art and history. While for modern art enthusiasts, Fabrica hosts experimental installations in a former church setting. If you are looking for entertainment, Theatre Royal Brighton and The Brighton Dome are two incredible and historic theatres that showcase productions, concerts, and dance performances.

A Night Out in the City

As your evening draws to a close, Brighton offers a vibrant nightlife for you to indulge in. You can find a whole host of nightclubs catering to different music tastes. The city is also full of lively pubs, where you can have drinks, food and try out a few games like billiards or darts.

These classic pub games have long been a favourite among the locals, although some visitors and residents might be intrigued by other classic games like poker, baccarat and roulette which also exist in the digital world. For insights and guidance on online UK casinos, there’s readily available information online which we would recommend to both amateurs and connoisseurs.

Conclusion

Brighton is truly a hub of culture and character, the city has so much to explore that we have only touched the surface of. The best way to experience Brighton is to take a trip yourself, now that you know all the tips and where to visit.

T @ Hove is a quirky vegan and vegetarian café and coffee shop, known for hulking
sandwiches, fresh fruit smoothies and quality coffee.

The Vibe

Inside, T @ Hove is surprisingly large and minimally decked out in trendy plants and
leafy vines, as well as soft, suspended lighting, which hangs from the ceiling to create
a naturally peaceful environment. With a range of indoor and outdoor seating, T @
Hove is enjoyed by large groups, brunching buddies and laptop workers.

The Food and Drink

Offering a huge range of vegan and vegetarian fare, you’ll be spoiled for choice. Choose
between thick-cut loaded breakfast sandwiches, stuffed pitas, and topped sourdough
toasts, as well as sizzling breakfast skillets like shakshuka and huevos rancheros,
suitable for solo dining or as a sharing skillet.

The variety didn’t stop at the food either, with everything available from classic good-
quality flat whites, to beetroot, no-tella or Biscoff lattes.

We opted for the crispy vegan sarnies: one vegan sausage and pesto bun, stuffed
with vegan sausages, a crispy hash brown and vegan ‘scrambled egg’ as well as a
tasty pesto sauce, and one deli sandwich, bursting with homemade vegan pastrami,
smoked applewood cheese, sauerkraut, pickles and crisp salad, all wedged in
between truly crunchy, toasted and fresh bread.

Both were hot, crispy, crunchy pockets of delicious vegan sauciness. Be warned: the
vegan ‘meats’ are truly meaty, which might not float all vegan’s boats. But there are
plenty of options which let the veggies shine, like the miso mushrooms on sourdough
toast.

Of course, we couldn’t resist a salted caramel brownie, which was perhaps the
gooiest thing I’ve ever eaten: a chocoholic’s paradise!

The Verdict

With stonking sandwiches averaging just £8, T @ Hove is an excellent spot for
breakfast, brunch, or an evening Tea (@ Hove).

Fatto A Mano Brighton: Review http://welovebrighton.com/fatto-a-mano-brighton-review/ Thu, 21 Sep 2023 13:19:29 +0000 https://welovebrighton.com/?p=198002 Fatto a Mano roughly translates to made by hand, which is reflected in the traditional Neapolitan style pizzas they serve.

The post Fatto A Mano Brighton: Review appeared first on We Love Brighton.

]]>
I remember well when Fatto a Mano’s first location opened in Brighton back in 2015, situated a few doors down from my place and I recall excitedly telling my friends that proper Neapolitan pizza was coming to London Road – which at the time was basically a road with a Domino’s, Boots, and a Co-Op. Since then, the pizza restaurant has seen great success and opened locations all over Brighton, and even one in King’s Cross, London. I am pleased to say that this expansion has not affected how Fatto a Mano approach their food and their original location is still going strong.

When you enter Fatto a Mano, the first thing you notice is their beautiful wood-fire oven, the interior of the restaurant has a relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere with a small dining in area. I think the more intimate size of the dining area makes the communal space feel more homely and ensures that you are well looked after by the always friendly staff. Unlike larger restaurants, at Fatto a Mano in Brighton you don’t feel like a single order number floating in a sea of tables.

When I visited Fatto a Mano with my partner we were looked after by Alex, who was friendly, charming, and very attentive for our whole visit. You might be reading this and thinking ‘of course they were nice to you, you’re reviewing their restaurant’ but Alex was just as excellent to every other table in there that evening, and in all my time eating there since 2015, I have never received bad service.

Fatto a Mano roughly translates to made by hand, which is reflected in the traditional Neapolitan style pizzas they serve, each one is made with pride and perfectly unique. I ordered the Pesto, Buffalo & Courgette pizza, which is a white pizza (no tomato sauce).

As a cheese-lover, I usually pick this one on days when I feel that a quattro formaggi may be a step too far! The slow-dried tomatoes, juicy courgette, and bright pesto bring a refreshing lighter dimension to this pizza even though it still has three different cheeses! Buffalo mozzarella is one of my favourite cheeses because of its distinct flavour, and parmigiano reggiano provides that classic Italian umami to the pizza, but the star of the show on this one is the smoked ricotta.

The ricotta elevates the pizza into a rich, warming level and the smoked flavour beautifully compliments and contrasts the pesto and vegetables. The pizza dough itself had been cooked just right, the golden-brown crust was crisp on the outside, and soft and chewy on the inside. The hint of olive oil brushed on the edges kept the dough’s moisture inside and added a nice subtle flavour which I enjoyed all on its own.

To drink, I asked Alex if he would recommend a wine for me and my partner to share. As I ordered a white pizza, and she ordered a red one, Alex recommended a carafe of the Ancora Rosato. The rosé wine was dry and crisp, with apple and berry notes. It paired wonderfully with the strong flavours of both of our pizzas (my partner had a parma ham & mushroom) and was really refreshing to sip between bites. For dessert, we ordered my kryptonite, tiramisu which is made in-house and always absolutely delicious.

All in all, the service, quality of food, and family-friendly atmosphere of Fatto a Mano is outstanding and – when you consider the fact that a pizza at Fatto’s is on average £10 cheaper than that of the UK’s most popular franchise – I don’t know why anyone would go to a big-logo pizza franchise ever again. Many thanks to the team at Fatto a Mano for a lovely meal, I will be visiting again soon!

Founded in 2011, The Coal Shed Brighton has had a fairly meteoric rise to success. Owned by the same people who run The Salt Shed, The Coal Shed has earned a reputation as a premier dining spot in the city. Specialists in grilled and roasted meat and fish with the only Josper oven in Sussex, being fully booked almost every evening of the week doesn’t come as a suprise.

Of course, it’s not just local people who have been singing its praises – the popular restaurant has had glowing reviews in the national press, with The Guardian and The Telegraph both naming The Coal Shed as one of their top picks for dining in Brighton.

Their method is simple: the highest quality ingredients, expertly cooked. As well as a seasonal à la carte menu, they also offer daily specials and a great value express lunch menu. Accompanying these main courses, you can expect a selection of inventive appetizers, sides, and desserts.

Owner Razak Helalat said: “We always try to locally source as much of the menu as we can, so it’s a real celebration of both Sussex and British food. From seafood sashimi to Onglet steak, there’s a great range of dishes for every diner.”

The restaurant’s location has also proven popular – conveniently based in the city centre, The Coal Shed is just a short walk from most locations, including just five minutes from Brighton train station and one minute from the seafront.
