Lovers of craft beer, assemble! The Brighton Tap Takeover comes to a drinking establishment near you on the weekend of November 12th-13th. For the uninitiated, the Brighton Tap Takeover will see 22 of the UK’s finest breweries showing off their wares at 20 of Brighton’s most popular pubs and bars. Breweries including Beavertown, Cloak & Dagger, Two Tribes, and Lewes’ very own Abyss Brewing will be debuting some timeless classics alongside new bespoke masterpieces to get your tongue wagging and your head foggy over two days dedicated to everything special about beer.
There are many ways for the casual beer conisseuer to enjoy this festival, but if you wish to make it around all twenty venues to sample all the beers on offer then a bit of forward planning is probably in order. Thankfully, the folks over at Brighton Tap Takeover have you covered. Their website has all the details about which breweries are involved and where you can sample their beers. A weekend ticket for the festival is extremely reasonably priced at £20 considering one can get you a pound off every pint and 50p off every half-pint you purchase. If you sample all 130 beers on offer, well, you can do the math – that’s a lot of money saved! A ticket will also get you four free half pints in any of the participating venues.
The Brighton Tap Takeover is not just about beer; each brewery will “take over” their respective venue and curate its entertainment over the weekend. Gavin George, CEO of Laine, who are organising the festival, is excited to see the festival return after the success of last year’s event, saying “this year we’re excited to bring new breweries to our beloved city as well as welcoming back favourites from previous years.”
Fred Helmer, from Abyss Brewing, is also excited to take over The Hope & Ruin over the weekend. He says, “we’ve all been very excited over at the brewery! The Hope & Ruin is one of our favourite places to enjoy live music and a good pint, so it will be great to walk in and see the taps filled with our beers.” Abyss have some fantastic beers on display at the Hope that are all waiting to be sampled, and Fred is “particularly proud of our newest iteration of our session beer called RAVE. The batch is fruited with peach, and hopped with a hop called Nectaron. You can expect the fruity sour that really jumps out of the glass.” In addition to RAVE, Fred also recommends Abyss’ fantastically named ‘Space Katz’ “which is named after an album by a favorite band of Andy’s (Abyss’ head honcho).”
Brighton Tap Takeover runs from November 12th-13th at selected pubs and venues across Brighton. Check out their website for more details.
