4 great activities to do on your beach day with the kids

With summer just around the corner, that can only mean one thing; it’s time to hit the beach! With so many great beaches along the UK coast, they make for the perfect day out for bank holidays and summer.

But it’s just as much the parent’s leisure time as it is the kids’. With some great activities planned, you can let the kids play or roam around within a safe distance, discovering all that the seaside has to offer whilst you relax. You could even share the car ride down with your partner using temporary car insurance to make it less tiring for you both.

As for the kids, here are just a few great activities that’ll keep the occupied the whole day.

Create a scrapbook

Days out like these become part of the kids’ mental scrapbook of treasured memories. Here, they could forget all about the school, play in the sea and spend some quality time with their parents. So, why not immortalise the day by creating an actual scrapbook together?

All you need is a sturdy sketchpad and then you can stick on anything that piques your interest. It could be a pretty shell you found along the beach, a glossy piece of seaweed, or even the receipt of your fish and chips order (because that’s a must at the British seaside).

Get bowling

Outside of the alleys that are all lights, music, and loud entertainment, bowling is a great game that can be set up just about anywhere. All you need are a set of bowling balls and away you go!

Make it a little interesting with a competition, inviting other kids on the beach to participate. The adults can act as the referees if they feel so inclined, or just savour the moment where there aren’t million-and-one parenting duties to attend to.

Build sandcastles

Possibly the easiest and most accessible activity to enjoy on the beach, sandcastle-making only requires a bucket and spade. And if you don’t have those, you have the opportunity to go freestyle and create something unique.

Choose from any of the UK’s sandy beaches and get building! Turn it into a competition and award the most ambitious castle-maker with ice cream.

Enjoy a picnic together

Nothing says the British seaside quite like a picnic. Whether you’ve gone for a classic round of sandwiches or tried something more modern like fancy salads, there’s nothing like sitting down together and munching on some homemade goodies as the waves crash on the shore.

Keep your blanket from flapping around by weighing down each corner with a bucket of water or bag. Then, smile for the camera! It’s a picture destined for the beach-day scrapbook!
