Claudia Shnier tells We Love Brighton about her upcoming Brighton Fringe show: Split Ends.

Who is your show for?
My show is for people who want to be taken on a (controlled) chaotic rollercoaster, that at times feels like a rave if Samuel Beckett hosted one, but it’s also a love story, an empowering one, a zany one, so in short; anyone who is tickled by any or all of the above should come see the show.
Why should people come and see it?
It is an autobiographical piece of theatre about my experiences with psychological abuse and OCD, and the interplay between powerlessness and control that comes with that. I have made sure that this show is entirely coming from my voice, so I did the sound design and video design, the vocals in the songs come from me, the composition of the songs (bar one) comes from me. I did this because writing and devising this show was how I got my voice back, which was taken away from me for a long time. This process has been incredibly empowering and healing for me, and I hope my vulnerability and rawness will empower and resonate those who come see it.
Have you performed at the Fringe before?
Nope! First time. I moved from Australia to the UK a year ago, so I’ve never been.
What do you love about Brighton Fringe?
I’ve never attended, as I’m fresh to the UK, but I love the sense of community that the Fringe creates. It feels very inclusive and supportive of independent artists who want to share their stories and connect.
What do you love about Brighton?
I’ve never been! But I know I’ll love the beach. I miss the ocean and will definitely have a dip when I’m there!
Are there any other shows you are excited to see?
I want to see Host, Disco of the Damned and Sooz Kemner is Ugly!
Split Ends is on at the Rotunda Theatre May 22 at 6.45pm, May 23 and May 24 at 2.15pm.
