Stranded: A Hilarious Tale of Survival, Status, and Improv
What happens when a school drama group crash-lands on a desert island? In Stranded, the latest comedy offering from seasoned improv duo Liam Brennan and Tom Jacob-Ewles, the answer is: a lot can go wrong—and hilariously so.
The only adult survivors, drama teacher Matt and his enthusiastic teaching assistant Julian, rally the children with improv games and tall tales. But while Matt focuses on finding a way home, Julian starts to enjoy the spotlight a little too much, embracing his new role as de facto leader of the castaways. Chaos, comedy, and power struggles ensue.
Stranded is a unique blend of audience interaction, scripted scenes, and improvised sketches. Presented by Brennan and Jacob-Ewles under their long-standing double act The Two Horsemen, the show promises an immersive island experience full of laughter and surprise.
The pair first joined forces at the University of Kent in 2009, where they both earned First-Class Master’s degrees in Drama and Theatre Studies, specialising in Stand-Up Comedy. Their creative partnership has seen them through sell-out fringe shows, co-directing gigs, and even pandemic-era online game shows—all while maintaining an enviable comic chemistry.
Outside of their duo work, Liam Brennan is a respected theatre practitioner, actor, teacher, and director at Hoopla Impro, the UK’s original improv comedy club. He has taught globally, contributed to the BBC, and even consulted on comedy for LEGO.
Tom Jacob-Ewles, meanwhile, brings heart and perspective to the team with his day job as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator—giving him, as he jokes, the moral high ground.
Stranded isn’t just a comedy show—it’s a delightfully unhinged survival story with sharp wit, heart, and a healthy dose of audience mischief. Don’t miss the chance to wash up on this comedic shore.
Stranded is on at The Actors on May 29 and 30 at 7.30pm.
