Triathlon events in Brighton and on the south coast

Fancy challenging yourself in 2025? A triathlon could be the perfect thing to work towards. Fortunately, there are plenty of events in and around Brighton you can train for. It doesn’t matter if you’re a complete beginner or an experienced racer, everyone has something to gain by taking part. Here are some of the best triathlon events on the south coast.

Brighton and Hove Triathlon

Scheduled for Sunday 31st August 2025, the Brighton and Hove Triathlon is the city’s premier endurance sport event.

There’s something to take part in, whatever your fitness or experience level, with novice, sprint and standard triathlon events on the day. There are even children’s events if you want to get the whole family involved.

Closed roads mean traffic-free racing and a great day out, hopefully in the sunshine! It could be a great way to round off the summer, couldn’t it?

Eastbourne Triathlon

Earlier in the year, Eastbourne Triathlon will be taking place just down the south coast. This event won the Triathlon England Event of the Year award in 2023 and 2019.

On Sunday 8th June 2025, there should be novice, sprint and standard triathlon events going on. The beginner races are perfect if you’re new to the sport or fitness activities in general.

Again, it’s a closed-road event, so that means no traffic while you’re racing around town.

TriBourne Festival of Endurance

One of the most impressive events on the south coast is the TriBourne Festival of Endurance also held in Eastbourne.

It’s scheduled for Sunday 20th July 2025 and boasts a range of events including long-distance triathlons, the Eastbourne Marathon, long-distance swims, Aquabike races and triathlon relays for all kinds of competitors.

These may not be suitable for you if you’re just starting on your endurance sports journey. But maybe in a few years! It might even be worth going to show your support this year, even if you don’t intend on competing.

What to do if you’re a complete beginner

Preparing for your first endurance event, however long, can be daunting. But the process is quite simple.

All you need to do is slowly increase your activity levels to start improving your fitness. Try to run, swim and cycle once a week at first, or just focus on certain exercises if you don’t have all the standard triathlon equipment yet.

It might be worth waiting to register for an event until you’re sure you want to do it. But they do tend to sell out pretty early in the year, so don’t leave it too late.

Start with small steps and, hopefully, we’ll see you at a triathlon event on the south coast in 2025!
