Halisco Restaurant In Brighton: Review

Tucked away on the lively and cosmopolitan Preston Street in Brighton is Halisco, a hip spot for all things Mexican. Delights on offer range from mouthwatering margaritas to scrumptious small plates and tantalising tacos.

First things first, Halisco is POPULAR. Even though we went on a stormy winter weeknight, every seat was taken, with people waiting at the counter for tables to become free. It’s definitely worth booking in advance to avoid disappointment!

The space is decked out with cool trendy artwork and is cosy and intimate without feeling cramped. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful despite being very busy which was clear to see.

Our order was taken quickly and we started with spicy margaritas which were delicious, if a little on the sweeter side than I’m used to. Food came as and when it was ready, and first we tried the jalapeño hash browns with a dill dip. They were crispy and gooey but not as flavoursome as I’d expected.

Then came the oyster mushroom tacos which were genuinely outstanding. I’ve been thinking about them ever since. They were crispy and savoury with creamy garlic mayo, red onion and fresh lime.

Finally, we had the sweet potato, corn and feta tacos, with crispy onions and sauce. They were moist and creamy, which worked perfectly with the crispy onions.

Overall, there were some seriously good tacos on offer at Halisco, which I dream about on a daily. It comes in at the higher end of the price range, at around £10 for two small tacos, and between £8 and £11 for small plates.

But if you’re looking for a night of authentic Mexican food in a buzzing atmosphere, then Halisco is a restaurant worth adding to your list.
